Is he a sinker or a sWimmer?
It's being made a bigger deal than it is. He was injured for some time and fell behind whilst CCV prepared and played very well during training and pre-season.
Also as Poch has mentioned, he seems to prefer players in certain positions to be either right or left footed. Alderweireld being injured doesn't do him much good because he is right footed and Wimmer is left.
You wouldn't ideally a right footed left back. Or a left footed right back and it's the same for the CBs.
cant get my head around the Wimmer situation, is he sulking since he was replaced in the team after doing so well? Its really puzzling.
don't rate Dier at all at CB tbh. would rather wimmer there all day. tbh, wimmer had every right to be unhappy at being dropped last year as soon as verts was back.
once verts did return we leaked goals all over the place.
pretty poor stuff from poch, and im not surprised if wimmer was less than impressed
If Vert had got injured then Wimmer would of started last night
Right footed defender hierarchy:
Aldy
Walker
Dier
Trippier
CCV
Left footed defender hierarchy:
Verts
Rose
Davies
Wimmer
Just work your way down for last nights match....
Toby and Walker not playing, so the next two right footers come into the team, CCV is elevated to 'backup right footer', ie on the bench.
Verts and Rose played, so Davies is 'backup left footer' ie on the bench.
I've probably made this way more complicated than needed. But if any of the left footers were injured then I'm sure Wimmer would've been involved. It's tough on him as I really rate him, but the fact is there's others above him currently.

Spot on
I would bet a fair amount of money that Kevin threw his toys out a little after he was kicked out of the side considering he did so well
Poch doesn't abide any kind of behaviour like this and so he has fallen out of favour kind of like Bentaleb did
I love MoPo honestly, but it's a massive slap in the face for a player not to get picked purely because he's the wrong foot.
How on earth can this take precedence over defensive qualities.

no, we'd player Trippier, pretty extreme contrasting situation.
Most teams play 2 right footed CBs, so what is the problem with 2 lefties? Considering Wimmer has proved in a third of a season he is our 3rd best centre back, therefore if one of Toby or Vert is out, he steps in for me anyday.
2 centre back of the same preferred foot is common
a full back on the side he is weakest, not common at all

Teams also play leftfooted rightbacks and rightfooted leftbacks.
Wimmer has proven nothing other than he is the best option if Vertonghen is out - another leftfooted centreback - and he is alongside Toby Alderweireld.
Our fullbacks are not like most other sides' fullbacks, they push much higher. It is much more important for our centrebacks to be of the correct foot because they often have to perform the role of the traditional fullback.
A rightfooted centreback is going to find it much easier curving a ball in to the path of his rightback. A leftfooter will always be playing a pass that is drifting out of play. Look how Smalling struggled to find Rose at the Euros for the opposite side
Pochettino obviously has the same thinking, which is why Dier - a rightooted player who can play CB or RB - plays in Alderweireld's absence, as he did last season.
HRH. you are right, but the point is should that be the case?
playing an arguably inferior centre back just because he is a particular foot.
so if he gets injured then CCV becomes first choice? ahead of wimmer? that's ludicrous.

How do we know Dier is inferior to Wimmer?
How many times have you seen Wimmer playing right centreback, and without Alderweireld alongside him? Because that is what Dier is being judged on

I don't. in my opinion wimmer is a better cb judging from what I have seen. I may be wrong. lets take the pouint further. CCV comes in for a Dier injury, and gets sent off first game... the model that you are suggesting poch uses, the player that would then become first choice is some academy centre back, and wimmer would still be on the bench?
not convinced.
Does CCV become the next choice after Dier on that side? Yes.
I advocated getting a 2nd rightfooted CB in the Summer, even as a year-long stopgap, to avoid this happening. Poch obviously thinks Dier and CCV are ample though

If Dier, Toby and CCV were all out, would Wanyama start RCB?
recall Poch playing CCV and Toby together in pre-season, two right footers, fair points HRH but i'll never get the footed thing at all
We are not at that stage - we have one rightfooted centreback out, and one of the two rightfooted centrebacks we have in reserve - Dier - has played in his absense, instead of a leftfooted one.
f he is also out, the third - CCV - would presumably play.
