Gaff....too early for the gk situation to be looked at properly, i aint too worried tbh.

Bit of mashing on tuesday i can see happening with them no marks in town, no doubt be getting their excuses in early.

Interesting that both spurs and arsenal fropped points after a european game..no such worries for us. Its all good

it's not a major concern however it is our biggest weakness

I'm really concerned with Karius. I've heard the cliche 'he needs time etc', but he seems to find himself in no man's land far too often. That's nothing to do with settling into a new league, it's the very basics of keeping. The two corners that led to their goal, his positioning was horrendous. The first one he tried coming for, and looked all at sea, the second he stayed on his line until it was too late.

I'm not saying Mig is the answer, and Karius may well improve with time, but thus far he looks a downgrade IMO. It was commonly said that Mig used to create chaos in the defence due to the nervousness he spread. I'm surprised Karius hasn't brought about a nervous breakdown.

Karius's stint in goal has coincided with the outfield players becoming so dominant in games, which is why Karius has been kind of sheltered so far. Yesterday he was exposed big time.

Apart from one kick karius was exellent in kicking out yesterday. Crosses he is a mixed bag at the moment but i can see him.getting better the more he plays.

Looks like we are getting a settled back four which helps

Is it not that we need to look at the work Achyerberg does. No coincidence that Reina, Mig & Karius all look ropey while he's been at the club.

Happy with where we are, and didn't expect to have done so well tbh. Especially considering the fixtures we've had.

Problem for your boys is that you have a bloated squad full of poor players. And you always get happy and then implode

Much better start than I thought given the fixtures and the number of new players who actually be starting for us.

Is the squad bloated? How many have we got in our squad?

We look to have a relatively settled starting 11, although the keeper is still cause for concern. We look stronger off the bench as well.

I don't see what Karius did wrong yesterday. I agree he's been ropey but we waited atleast a years before giving Mig stick. Can't see Marius getting as much time as Mig from some quarters.

I just said its a concern/worry, he's in a new league, new team ect however his play on crosses needs to improve

Criticism of Karius going way overboard.

He hasn't been directly at fault for any goal conceded yet.

5 games we have conceded 3 and kept our only league clean sheet.

The set piece defending is a team problem not an individual one. We are a small team still, so mark zonally to counter act that, but when the ball is good and we don't block the runners (which is more difficult in the new rules, or should be), then we will always struggle.

As long we keep only conceding at a rate of 6 every 9 games I don't care really.

We have conceded over 50 in recent seasons so are well on target to beat that at moment, heading for 46 based on current average 1.22 per game but I expect better than that as after the first two games when we were still adjusting and had no Matip we are averaging only 0.75 a game which would finish on 32 conceded.

I expect we will be somewhere in between at about 40 which would be a massive improvement and a base to build on for Karius and the back 4.

If you watch the two corners in question, Karius was all over the place. I'm amazed it's not obvious!! And like I said, IMO Karius has been fortunate that his spell in the team has coincided with the excellent, dominant performances of the rest of the team. The reduction of goals conceded is not down to Karius, he's hardly had anything to do.

It's obvious his kicking is superior to Mignolets and helps us keep possession and start attacks.

It's obvious he hasn't been great at crosses, but not many keepers are these days. It's not the most important part of football any more and hasn't been for a good few years now.

We can't know how much of it is down to Karius or not. Perhaps he inspires more confidence, you wouldn't know as a fan.

The common denominator in all our recent keepers being dodgy is Achterberg.

There's no doubt his distribution is better, so that's a big positive. But to undermine the importance of the fundamentals of keeping is bizarre. We now more than most that it's no good having a good forward line if you're constantly leaking unnecessary goals.

It's funny how the sticks that were being used to beat Mig with, are suddenly being dismissed as largely irrelevant......

Very true.

I have heard him barking orders, so I do believe he is more vocal and dominant a figure than Mignolet also.

He hasn't looked good on crosses. But like I said, few keepers are these days. Goalkeeping across the globe has changed and catching crosses isn't seen as a keepers bread and butter like we are used to in England.

That's why Pep wanted Bravo and didn't want Hart.

Good article here on it, and similar could apply to Klopp and Karius.

Maybe, or could it not be that we haven't found the right keeper yet? I'm pretty sure that Reina's loss of form can't be pinned on Achterberg, but on Reina himself.

Term

In fairness we defended Mig in the same way when he first joined. We need to give Karius time,

I used to berate Migs inability to save anything, and his poor kicking, more often than indecision at crosses.

You need to get with the times Term.

It's not 1983 any more.

Yet we were pretty sure that the opposite was true with Mig
