Charlton, for all his faults, is an England and Utd. legend.

Rooney, for all his faults, isn't.

He'll be staying for his gold watch !

Couldn't give a monkey's about goal records tbh

Bigger issues of concern a utd

doesnt bother me.

All this Charlton deserves to keep it stuff is jut b0ll0x.

If rooney breaks the record he deserves it because he has scored more goals, simple as that.

How many goals does he need? The Europa league should give him the chances.

He needs 3. It could have been just 1 if he'd taken the pens last week. Odd decision. He seemed to want to take the first one, but the 86 million dollar man told him to get bent.

I get the idea that he doesn't want to take penalties anymore as he doesn't want to limp over the record just through taking set pieces.
He might be told he can leave, but would he want to leave? He's on a top salary and probably still thinks he is good enough to start.

Unless United buy out his contract you are stuck with him. He won't go to China and no other PL club will pay silly money for a once top player but now has been.

Leave? Where's he going to go?

Nobody can afford him. Unless he wants to go to America (can't see him going to china even for a £1m a week) then wheres he going to go?

He's on 275/280k a week so they say. Where's he going to get anything close to that with the form he's in? Most teams wouldn't pay him 100k a week right now. America or see out his contract seems to be the only options to me.

Remember when Mourinho went back to Chelsea, he originally wanted to sign Rooney as part of an exchange with Mata.
Mourinho's Moyes-esuqe incompetence could have spared you from the Rooney problem and cursed Chelsea with it.

Wasnt the talk that it would be Mata + £20m? Even then, most United fans would have taken that.

I don't think it was anything like that. They offered £30m for Rooney didn't they? They valued Mata at £10m? Doubt it.

Don't care either way, whoever has the record will deserve it but it doesn't really effect us. If Rooney does break it then good for him, if not he still will have had a great career at United.

Elvis -

I can't recall what the details were outside of Mata going to United with Rooney going to Chelsea. It would have been a great deal for United but would have facked Chelsea up majorly.

Rooney deserves it

And anyone who says he isn't a Utd legend is quite frankly a window licking idiot.

I thought that the deal was worth £40m, with Mata being £20m of it.

Wasn't it a fee + Mata or Luiz ?

He deserves it if he earns it. He's got to start scoring some goals to do that though.

That was the story, but Chelsea denied that they had offered any players in the end and just made a straight cash offer. Thinking about it now, I think it was £10m cash and Mata or Luiz. Then they offered £20m straight cash for Rooney to start and I believe made a second offer?

If Rooney is not getting regular game time at United he will not sit on the bench and see out his contract.

Rooney loves playing the game too much. One of three things will happen.

He will go to the USA on a much reduced wage.

If he is only interested in money he will go to China.

He will take a massive wage cut and move to another prem team.

Rooney has undoubtedly been a top player both for United and England

However I think the writing has been on the wall for a few years now. He has played at least 25-30 games too many for England and I thought his standard of play for United has been very average for the past 3 years too.

I would certainly place him as a United legend however, he has earned that.

Can see him going to either the MLS or for a massive pay day in China

I can see Rooney in the US,especially above China.Think I read a few years back that the Rooney crew have abit of affinity for the US.

I think he will go to the US. What he loses in wages he will probably be able to make up in endorsements. I know he isn't Becks, but he can still make plenty out there.
