Stevie...the club can't act without knowing the outcome of the betting case hence the delay and the silence. It's frustrating but legal matters tend to be so.

IMO there's a bit in his contract about betting. If he's found guilty in November his contract will have been breached and he,ll be oot .
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That would be interesting if it was the case. Maybe on the back of Ian Black and that usual bassa keeper's indiscretions it was put into contracts as a standard.
Let's face it though, technically if a punch was thrown at the training ground then it could be seen as grounds for dismissal in most walks of life (boxing and MMA apart ).
It's can be quite a complicated and lengthy process to sack someone and when two million quid is at stake, it pays to make sure everything is done to the letter of the law.

I would have thought it might have been easier to deal with it as 2 separate incidents. Discipline him for what happened at Murray Park, and if that was serious enough then it's a final written warning. Then when the outcome of the betting case is decided, if that goes against him then that's him gone.
Stevie does make some valid points regarding the length of time it's taking, etc, but anyone with half a brain knows that a club won't disclose a player's contract, and that they can't comment on an ongoing disciplinary issue with any specifics.
But it has become a bit of a sideshow with the length of time it's taking.
As far as we are aware he
Had an argument with Halliday - ok acceptable and common in football but:
Carried on his argument onto the training field and wouldn't let up, Warburton calls him to his office and he still wouldn't give it a miss, so was suspended
He then goes on Twitter and gives it Billy big baws talking sh!te
He then does a radio interview saying he has nothing to apologise for and will be into see" warbs "tomorrow to have it sorted, wrong Joey further suspension
Then comes his gambling charges, facing a lengthy ban on something everyone knows is against SFA rules
Bye bye Joey
It is also worth remembering the SFA charge was delayed at the request of Barton. My guess is he probably knows this will finish him and the longer he can drag it out and continue to get paid the better for him.
Why would it finish him?
To date no player across Europe has been sacked for betting in another league to the one he plays in. There are also previous cases where players in Scottish football actually bet on their own team and were not sacked.
You want to talk about lawyers having a field day well you can bet your erse one would if this is what Rangers are using to sack him.
I think a lot of Rangers fans seem to be hoping this is the case rather than basing it on any hard facts or comparable cases.
His betting charge will be a silly slap on the wrists from the SFA.
As for him keeping quiet, perhaps it's a case of he knows at this stage if he keeps quiet then Rangers are flooked.
As previously stated it's all speculation at this stage but some of the excuses trotted out are absolute nonsense.

As for a lengthy ban, if he got a lengthy ban he would be the first! SFA had previous for their bans, can't see why Barton would be an exception.

Wonder how long it will take a journo to ask about barton at today's pre match press conference... then how many more times will they ask despite being told there will be no comment on the matter

The presser was yesterday , held on a Thursday now

I absolutely have no trust in Dave King or the rest of the board. ------------------------------------------
Given where we are now compared to where we were 18 months ago I find that an incredible statement.
shared information that he shouldn't
Warburton's nickname?

He won't be sacked for the gambling alone but for a series of misdemeanours
I think that was to do with Match fixing was it not?

It's not about that one single charge though it's a combination of all the fck ups he's made in a very short space of time.

Smid-if that's the case then that's not helping Rangers. The incident at Murray Park should have been dealt with by now then. I'd need to ask timmy as he is the resident legal expert, but I would have thought that the betting would have to be viewed separately, although it could be cumulative as I said above.

The problem with the betting is that Rangers, as an employer, have already set a precedent on the betting situation with Ian Black. It can't be an issue here.

That's the thing though. I'm sure they will be treated as separate incidents but it's been one stupid mistake after another. Now there is an ongoing betting charge against him. How many red flags and fck ups can be allowed before he's binned?

NNH - There you go, Tranmere sacked their Manager a couple of years ago for breaching rules on betting.
I am sure there were a couple of lower league English clubs last season who did the same. If it is a breach of contract then dismissal is a very possible outcome.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That was to do with matches he was involved in. A bit different to just betting on other matches. And Rangers didn't sack Ian Black for betting on games he was involved in.
