She respected the outcome of the referendum and concentrated on becoming the dominant party in Scotland
With Scotland overwhelmingly voting to remain in the EU it meant that democracy in Scotland meant nothing if the vast majority are against it
Scotland is not in the EU. If they hadn't bottled their chance they would be leaving both the UK and EU. There would have been no automatic pass into EU.
The UK has voted to leave the EU and Scotland by staying in the UK could vote. Over 1 million Scottish voters wanted to leave. The leave vote won by over 1 million votes.

Sorry mate but that is bollox and totally undemocratic
The majority voted to remain in UK, be part of U.K. and it's constitution. Are we going to start crying every time there is a commons vote now and Scottish MPs don't get their way?
We are part of U.K. and the majority voted for that in a referendum where they were given that very choice to not be part of U.K. and voted against it
Our political leaders, the SNP and their followers need to understand what democracy means and start respecting it
----------------------------------------------------------------------
As you know I'm not anti-British like some (many) SNPers so I try as best I can to take a step back and view it as neutrally as I can - which is difficult when you have a bias.
To her credit when Salmond departed she took on the role and set about making Scotland stronger, whether people agree with how she is doing it is for another debate. However at no point did she mention a second referendum. In fact I'd go so far as to say she avoided they questions.
What she has said all along is if something happened that affected the status quo of Scotland then that may change things.
now let's not beat about the bush and pretend she wasn't angling towards Brexit as she clearly was however only the media, both social and press were talking up a second referendum until after Brexit.
So as far as democracy goes she did go with the decision with a longer term plan instead.
Salmond had he stayed in charge wouldn't have. Let's be honest he is a that no one really likes.

thats why it is different murney
its also a bit different in that they cant change the president in 4 years.
its also different because half the things people were told a no vote would secure have now been shown otherwise.
for the record i didn't think another referndum would be right, until after the brexit vote.
which a fair few no voters on here also agreed with btw.
not C mentioning U any R names L though Y.

The Greens want independence as well by the way. It's not just the SNP.
Anyway, I like Sturgeon. I think she's alright. Don't agree with all her policies, don't agree with her centralisation of government and I certainly think there have been many mistakes made, however I don't think any other Scottish leader would have made a better fist of things in the Scottish Parliament.

so if a poll went out that people did want independence then you would agree with another referendum?
The Scottish people DONT want independence

I think Brexit has changed the landscape enough to warrant another referendum. I certainly wouldn't have supported another so soon if not for that.
I'm pretty sure you were supportive of another referendum after Brexit, were you not?

seen a few comments on here that trump was the peoples choice.
hilary had more votes in total, but thats not how it works over there.
We could go into semantics here
The people DIDN'T want it is one view but Brexit has changed that along with many broken "vows"
The other way is the Scottish people DID want it. Off the top of my head it was about 60% of Scottish born voted for it, it was those who now reside in Scotland that are not from there that swung the vote.
