Might aswell, nothing to lose.

I think he is a very blessed person who has had a fantastic career despite being average.

Was an average player, won hardly anything and has somehow kept a job with the fa for years and is now england manager. What a life.

Happy with him. The England football team are just there to make up the numbers so no point trying another top manager when the players are so average.

Average players often make good managers. So that's a good sign.

No he should not, should never have got anywhere near the job in the first place, just because the players fail at tournaments doesn't mean we should just accept mediocrity for the hell of it

Already been there for 4 games. Would seem pointless to change now, knowing what limited candidates are available.

Just give him the gig and see if he can't be any worse than Hodgson.

In the words of gruff rhys, "A flirt with mediocrity, comes with a heavy penalty"

IMO he is best positioned to take the engalnd job. He knows the England set up inside out, has been involved in the development of it over the past what decade nearly?

He should be given at least this campaign and the Euro 2020 one too, even if you bomb out in the groups at the WC 2018.

You wil lqualify everytime bar an absolute mess and having some stability in senior positions shoudl help the overall development, like Southgate will know what young lads are on the path to the senior team, he will know these players well having seen them move up the ranks and can offer them a path to the senior team.

He's a well know figure in English football and seems liek an honest, hard working man, his CV of managerial roles ins't great but overall it's hard to see a better place Englishman to take the job and you should try to have an Englishman as the manager, I always feel that international football is the best of your v the best of them and that includes the manager and his staff.

Also with a less experienced man maybe he get's a bit more time and less pressure than previous managers have got.

not at all. Was just thinking it lastnight, like "what a blessed life" fair play to him though, hope he implements some positive change into the set up.

Loving the apathy here, "well, we're $hit anyway, might as well give him the job, maybe he won't be as bad as all the other turkeys"

Nick, Galv and Double H

i was going to do my own thread where i asked do you think the contract length should be 4 years?

Somebody pointed out to me that 4 years of Southgate's rumoured salary is going to just equal what Sven and Fabio were paid.

And he pointed out there would be 'get out clauses' inserted to remove Southgate if he does not achieve certain targets?!

true, they'd rather have a shop dummy

Don't know flash, like I said "jobs for the boys" and for people who will keep their mouth shut if it does turn sour, we will never know the contract stipulations.

As people above have mentioned, just want a robot and yes man, a dummy if you will.

I don't believe any manager should have more than a 2 year contract in the current climate.
