Not just the reserves but according to Butt his entire life he was a winger untill last season. I'm not saying that's where I want him but like Martial he has the strengths to operate as both a central or wide forward IMO.

There are plenty of strikers who have developed their game with periods out wide. I do want to see Rashford get games centrally now and then but for now at the age of 18 I don't think it is that harmful to play him wide as game time is valuable.

Agree.
The very notion of certain people claiming that Rashford is currently 'being ruined' is laughable considering he's incredibly early in his profession.
Had we not had a catastrophic injury plagued time last season it's arguable whether he would even be involved in the set up at the present anyway.

He'll get gametime up top eventually whether that's this season or next.
The guy has time on his side.Developing other facets to his all round game isn't such a bad road to take either.
So chill.I'm just happy that he's established himself as a attacking option for us,wide or uptop,in this early stage of his career.

I may add I dont think playing for the England senior side is doing him a great deal of good at present.
He should be playing for the U21's where he'll definitely get gametime.
Classic England though.Throw a youth player in at the deep end when he hasn't consistently proven himself in the lower regions of youth international football.
Thought England had a new procedure in place now of giving our youth players a great amount of time to develop before they make their leap to the senior side like other nations ?
Obviously not.

TBH Rashford european debut came from an injury but he was in LVG plans hence getting rid of so many strikers.

This was one of the concerns with Zlatan, as his presence is directly impacting 2 of our young attacking players.

At the same time though we needed a striker. We scored less goals last season any point in the past 27 years.

Martial and Rashford have. A lot of potential but they're far too young to be relied on over a season to carry us to titles.

We didn't concede many though, so statistics have to be taken with a pinch of salt.

Zlatan started fantastically, however he has likely cost us points of late too.

Fact is that neither Martial or Rashford are yet ready to be 25 goal a season strikers which is what we need right now.

Look at how much Liverpooo are scoring at the moment. Quite likely to score 100+ goals this season. Ibra was an essential purchase and unfortunately Rashford is going to have to accept he's part of a squad rather than a team set up to make him great

There's no way Rashford has played more minutes than Blind since his debut.

Regardless, if - and we can't assume this - he starts up top, I agree it's a big game for him. He should be thinking about making that number nine shirt his own, regardless of who his competition is.

Agree with every word of that

I've heard this argument about groups of young players growing up in international football together. Fair enough, but it doesn't have to be for the senior side, does it?

I have a feeling he will play rooney upfront and rashford on the left.

I think it might be the other way round.

Rooney on the left with Rashford in the centre

MARCUS RASHFORD STATS LAST SEASON VS THIS SEASON STATS 2015/2016 SEASON 2016/2017 SEASON
Games played 18 14
Goals 8 4
Goals per game 0.4 0.3
Assists 2 1
Assists per game 0.1 0.1
Total shots 36 21
Shots per game 2 1.5
Shots on target 14 5
Shots on target per game 0.8 0.4
Chances created 13 9
Chances created per game 0.7 0.6
Dribbles attempted 84 46
Dribbles per game 4.7 3.3
Dribbles completed 28 14
Dribbles completed per game 1.6 1

Not suprising as LVG tactics of 80-90% territorial possession per game with Rashford upfront while Mourinho is a more counter attack manager meaning Rashford playing more on the wing with a less territorial based team means Rasgfod was going to dribble far less, have less shots and shots on target.

Arsenal have the best shot conversion in the Premier League (14.5 per cent), while United are fifth worst at 8.4 per cent

- Arsenal have the fourth tightest defence in the Premier League away from home, conceding a goal per almost 14 shots. United are among the leakiest with a goal conceded per 8.5 shots
....
Main reason why Arsenal are ahead of us.

How do you know that they cannot be 25 goals per season strikers?

Martial did not do too badly for a stranger in a new league.

Liverpool are doing well because the manager is playing people in their correct positions and trusting players

posted on 18/11/16

I said not yet. They are both very young and with young players you manage them and don't ask an 18 year old to lead the line and put that pressure on them.

There really isn't any rush with Rashford. As for Martial, he was overplayed last season so understandably we didn't want to make that mistake this season

posted on 18/11/16

Robb Martial played 48 times for Monaco in one season. I know he played 56 times including time at Monaco last season but he appeared 48 times for us.

posted on 18/11/16

The only way to assess whether they can hack it is to give them a chance.

Not relegate them to the doldrums especially when both players played key roles in our team last season.

The treatment of Martial has been terrible and shunting Rashford out wide to run around aimlessly has been as bad.

Take Jose's dk out of your mouth and look at this objectively.

posted on 18/11/16

Martial was overplayed last season and is a bit burnt out. That's a fact. His own agent has said it. You're being utterly stupid saying that Jose has treated him 'terribly'.

As for Rashford, he's very young. It's not fair to him to put the responsibility of leading the line on his shoulders. Ibra was a great signing because not only can he help teach Rashford some of what makes a great striker but he takes a lot of the pressure off the younger players.

Your weird hatred of Jose makes you blame him for everything. Guess what... Having just Martial and Rashford be our main strikers at this stage of their careers is a bad idea.

Rashford is our best striker though. Ibrahimovich has a lot to learn off Rashford finishing wise.
