Why the fack do so many people seem to like abusing kids, WTF is wrong with society, what's attractive about a child FFS.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Apparently it's a trigger in the brain, something that can't be helped, some act on it, some (like this person) don't.

If that's the case then surely more can be done to make sure these people never 'offend'.
Surely the point should be that Cfc, a club I have followed for nearly 60 years, felt that if this had become public knowledge it would severely damage their business and therefore paid that poor man off also legally assuring that he kept quiet.
After reading this thread I can't see anyone condemning the club for what they did.
You vile caants should be deducted 20 points for covering up things with a pay off, absolutely disgraceful, but we would expect nothing less from such a vulgar football club. Standard Chelsea, if there is any justice you will get smashed in El Plastico today.
Maybe because as yet not enough information is known to draw an informed opinion on the matter. Currently all I can see is the usual assumptions drawn from headlines rather than detail.
Aside from which the Chelsea of today is very different from the Chelsea if 40 years ago in so many ways not least that it has changed ownership twice since and that it is unlikely that anyone involved then is still with the club. The accused is dead and if found guilty will not be punished, his family might and that would be unfair on them unless they supported his behaviour. If those at Chelsea at the time did then they deserved to be punished as well but this is what the club began investigation into when it was reported to them.
You cannot condemn someone every time an accusation is made against them. If you do I suggest you never have more than one kid as you will be forever punishing them, let alone arguing with other parents over what your child has or hasn't done.
Too early to judge this incident and not enough information. Discuss it if you must but if you really feel you must try learning more about it first.

You are sick, as if a 20 point reduction would help the victim or any other victim of such vile abuse?
This is a serious crime that occurs in all walks of life and should be treated as such, not some points related activity.
Billy I'm going to leave your post in as an example of what an ignorant representation of your kind you are.
jfdi,
I think the club should be applauded for resinding the gagging order and embarking on an investigation .Now that at last the police and FA are taking this matter seriously.u
As yet there are few high profile clubs willing to take responsibility, but that will change as
the depth of the scandal becomes apparent.

Absolutely, there is already one other club affected and there will be many more and some may even be more recent. Anything that can help put a stop to this in any walk of life is worthwhile.
Re the gagging order.
When would the club have been aware this existed, and the circumstances it pertains to?
^By club, I mean the current administration
That this happened to Mr Johnson almost becomes secondary as it occurred under different management and the accused is now dead. The club felt that it was cost effective to pay him 50k and shut him up, this was done under current management and only resinded the gagging order when it was clear the game was up. Whilst the current management had nothing to fear from these allegations and I feel certain that it would be a lot more difficult to do this to kids, they still felt they had to protect their reputation and earnings which leaves a nasty taste.
Exactly Topdog. Can't believe some Chelsea fans are trying to make out like the club did nothing out of place.

Where is anyone saying the club did nothing wrong?
Agreed that the clubs actions in the first instance were motivated by self preservation, but at the time the police and the FA didn't want anything to do with it, it is understandable why the club didn't begin a one man crusade.
But the important point is now , the club have begun an investigation along side the police and FA investigation , which hopefully will see the abused parties gain closeure and the guilty parties exposed.
At the moment how many other high profile clubs taking responsibility are there?
If the club have done anything wrong we will see, a payment was made and apparently part of that payment was an agreement not to talk about it and that would have to be accepted by the victim and must have satisfied him at the time or he could have gone public.
The fact it has become public noweans things have changed, we don't yet know what, how or why but we will.
I feel personally that a lot of assumptions are being made and conclusions being drawn without enough information. I am certain that should we have done anything wrong or improper we will be dealt with, until then I will reserve judgement.
Yes things have changed because Chelsea knew this was all going to come out in the open now. They were instructed by their lawyers to pay the victim off...they should have just let it out in the open whenever the situation came to light. Now it looks like we're only holding our hands up because everyone else is being found out.
Everyone else, then why only us being discussed. If that was the lawyers advice I'd sack them first, but do you know this or are you making an educated guess.
The accused was already dead, there has been no investigation, no admittance of guilt etc.
I am sorry but I think most are trying to simplify what is actually quite a complex situation.
I just read an article this morning about the payment and that the lawyers advised it with a confidentiality clause. Apparently this is nothing out of the ordinary though.
Exactly, standard practice I believe and optional, I. E. Should the victim not be happy to accept the conditions they are free to pursue other avenues such as going public. Now he may have been deterred from that by the fact that the police didn't seem to be interested in investigating, it seems to me that so far Chelsea have done more for the victim than anyone else, without asking for proof.
Mr C, Bruce Buck our chairman is the senior partner in a top law firm.
Personally as much as I feel the clubs initial handling of the matter is dubious , without the facts its impossible to judge.
But with the Police and Fa at the time refusing to get involved its some what clear why the club didn't take it any further.
You're right iffy. I am just going by the initial reports and the fact that Chelsea offered to the victims lawyer to waive the confidentiality clause after all this started.
You have to also take into account this happened prior to the recent revelations. If it had happened since it is most likely to have been handled very differently as will the 350 allegations made last week alone.
I did not realise the settlement was last year.
Whichever way it is spun, it does not look good on Chelsea in the current climate
