To me Im dissapointed, call me old fashioned but I just wanted a straight up kinda revamp of the original.

Maybe just add more options into the battle mode (still keeping it turn based) add in loads more animations from all characters, more varieties of enemies, a higher AI.

Add more weapons, items, materia types and variations.

Obv they would have to change the world map and make cities/towns bigger.

Thats what I wanted, the things that they are adding that I didnt want was a knew real time battle system (for me that was part of the magic of FF7) with real time it doesnt look like you will be controlling party actions or attacks much if at all which is a shame cos FF7 was not just Clouds story, it was Barretts, Yufi's, Aeris', Tifa's etc..... I think this will be lost and focused mainly around Cloud. I think tactics will be lost on the real time battles (or not as tactically based).

I can understand why they are making the changes they plan to and I can only assume its to make it more appealing to a new generation/fanbase of gamers. However the reason that there has been so much demand and hype for a FF7 remake is from those that played the original I highly doubt there was much demand from new players that hadnt played it. Therefore I think they have went down the wrong direction.

The other arguement however is that they can say well we did things the old way already and this is a different game they are remaking rather than just same old, same old that would no doubt have its critics also.

I cant really say I have feelings one way or the other, having never played the game, or any of the others for that matter.

I would suggest though bringing it up to date is the way to go, a simple remaster might keep the charm of the original but would also highlight it's weaknesses.

As I see it the game will be something to look forward to for young and old, if done right.

According to the internet, the two most important aspects are a cross-dressing Cloud and Tifa's tatas. I won't disagree.

I do hope they keep the sense of humour in the remake. Even though it was a fairly dark game, it was still aware it was a game. They'd better keep things like the Gold Saucer and leave Yuffie's personality alone.

Also the music. Don't frigging touch the music.

Working in some sort of prologue with Crisis Core would be cool too. The ending scene of that game deserves to be shown to a wider audience.

I mentioned on another thread that I hadn't played FFVII but from FFX (probably my favourite game ever) onwards, I've been a huge FF fan.

I've been tempted dozens of times to play the original of this game as the vast majority of FF fans tell me that it's the greatest, however, I've been reticent to do so in the fear that PS1 graphics and dynamics might tarnish the majesty of the game at a time when the PS3 was out, offering the original on the PS Store.

For someone like me, it's awesome that they remaking it, however, I can completely empathise with someone who advocated the original in its entirety. When they remade FFX, I admonished them for a quick buck as the remaster was half-hearted in my opinion and didn't add enough to warrant a second £40 spend (or third now they've done it for PS4 too!).

Perhaps, then, remakes as opposed to remasters are the way to go because it provides enough in the way of effort and skill to justify the oniomania that stalks a game & franchise as big as this one.

I bought the remaster of FFX because I never owned the original. Barely played it, but have it on disc so it's there forever should I one day fancy going back to it. Got to the point where you learn about the skill web thing and couldn't be bothered learning it.

Would still highly recommend FFVII. I didn't play it till 2010 and it still held up extremely well. The graphics aren't good but that doesn't detract from anything. Still an interesting story with good characters and a fantastic world to explore. So much depth too. You can spend days doing utterly inconsequential nonsense like chocobo breeding.
And again, the music is phenomenal.

So as a neutral Amiga do you have any urge to buy this or are you particularly hyped for it or not? Thats what Im trying to grasp whether or not they are making a mistake by changing it up? If folk that havent played it are pretty much meh it could be a huge mistake because it will receive negative feedback i think if only really bought by those that played it before if you get what i mean?

I doubt I will be interested in buying it, but if I were I would want an updated more modern version, as opposed to a remaster.

I think you might enjoy the remake more than you imagine, the original will always have it's place for you though.

FF7 is my favourite game of all time!

For years I was 50/50 with wether they should do a remake, at first for years I wanted a remake and then as I got older and the Final Fantasy games started to not be as good.. 11, 12, 13.. 14... haven't played 15 but I do have it! (oh, and they aren't bad those games but they are nothing compared to 10 through 7 - played 6 and enjoyed that but was before my time )

I started to sway a bit to that I didnt want a remake of the game as I feared they would ruin it! (just like Star wars episode 7.. its my least favourite star wars... I hate Daisy's face )

Saying this, I am excited for the remake for sure and there is no doubt that I will most certainly pre order it and buy the figures and collectables etc etc as I love the game!!

I'm not keen on the "released in parts" bit... please don't do this as you just KNOW they will charge £49.99 for each fooking part the thieving people they are and believe me they are... they've released FF7 about 4 times now, PS3, PS4, Steam, iOs... list goes on and its been £12 I thin in most cases or even more!! shocking really...

I just hope

A) they don't ruin it
B) don't release in parts
C) keep the soundtrack but improve it, the orchastra music of the game is phoneominal!
D) please don't change anything, don't take anything out of the original for any reason and then don't make excuses as to why its been removed
E) dont mention the word "mother" 18 quintillion times in one cutscene

saying this, I'll probably fall in love in the first scene!

Hmmm, i still am dreading it lol..... but that is the point that Im making, there is no doubt (well judging by feedback) that previous players are not too happy about the turn based combat being removed, especially as it will limit the control over your other party player (you band about in a group of 3 in FF7) and will be AI controlled now :o( . But if players like yourself are not overly fussed about the remake then there is a very good chance that it will get slated by those who end up getting it as they will be in majority of players that played the original and loved it and the sole reason for purchasing the remake. resulting in negativity that will put off the "new" buyers and damage the sales in turn. Just got a feeling along with a few others that have posted here it seems that they are gonna lose the "magic" that the original had.

I share a lot of your views RVB, somethings I can clear up, the soundtrack will be different for eg the battle victory tune gets a cameo as someones ringtone in the new game, Im not so worried about the "episode releases" as long as the content is there cos the original is huge and to then convert the world map into a modernised form will be HUGE ! I guess I just dont want it to be a different game I want it to feel like FF7 and not a reskinned FF15 with different story

I want it to feel like FF7 and not a reskinned FF15 with different story - This is a Great point and one I agree on!

I agree with the battle soundtrack and a few of the little parts of music! I just hope they don't change things like Aeris' theme, Tifa's theme, world map theme, city of ancients, temple of ancients etc, just improve the sound that IMO would be nostalgic brilliance

I'd actually love them to add additional side missions/quests and other storylines aswel

I can't wait to fight Emerald and Ruby... I can't begin to imagine how hard they'll be!

YES! that song is a song they can't change!!

On my first playthrough I struggled through most of the game right up to Demons gate where I got stuck and could not kill him because I was too low level so I had to start the game all over again and spent hours levelling in random places and then discovered the HP plus and MP plus materia and was then ok!

Now I can play the entire game without dying and even managed to kill emerald weapon before he could use Air Tam Storm

Just completely OP myself in the northern crater... I swear I killed Sephiroth at the end using 4x cut about 2-3 times... you can still enjoy the game without the challenge though

haha that is true!! goodbye magic pot and elixers trick!

I wonder what bits will be made difficult in the remake! I can imagine Sephiroth and maybe right at the start where you fight Rufus will be tough too

Play it Ronny, you won't regret it. Very good character development on Zack and adds a lot to the backstory of Cloud & Sephiroth.

Also a great score, as always in Final Fantasy games. Are there any with bad or even average music?

I think what needs to be first and foremost this isnt a remaster or remake. Its a reimaginging of the game. So expects lots of changes. TBH rather than think about it as Resident Evil (PS1) to Resident Evil (GC) think it more of New Hope to EP7. Its more less gonna be the same story but with everything updated and just moved into the next gen of gaming.
