Sidebro, no player comes to Chelsea with guarantee of games. No player. If conte had wanted to keep cuadrado he could have.
Cuadrado probably just didn't fancy it, and i couldn't blame him really. We gave him a few appearances for half a season then eagerly shipped him out the following summer. I'd feel pretty unwanted too.

Alonso was bought because he could apparently play LB, LWB and CB. I don't believe he was specifically bought to play LWB
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Do you think our defence would be doing anywhere near as well if we were playing a flat back four that contained Alonso, Luiz and Cahill?
Yeah I mean I guess that's true, but a new manager that had a system planned that suited the player... I mean I dunno, I just would have liked to have had cuadrado as an option

Okay but do you really think conte couldn't have convinced him to stay? I think he could have

Juventus aren't a duff team themselves, preferring to stay there over a side without CL football isn't unreasonable. I agree he would've been good in this team, but ce la vie.

One player from our past who really would've been great in this team was Zhirkov. Kind of disappointing for him that the emergence of 3-4-3 came after he got plagued by injuries, he would've been a phenomenal left wing back.

No. The system suits all our defenders

Oh shiiit yeah Zhirkov would have been class instead of alonso. He was a really good player, never wanted us to sell him. I wonder where he ended up.
To answer OP, no. He had a set of players who played essentially the same system and who all knew their roles, I don't see the point in coming to a new league and assuming a new system would work from the off, Jose started with a 4-4-2 diamond I recall.
It gives the manager time to assess the players he has at his disposal. He needs that time to gauge specific roles such as the wing backs on which defenders can adapt to the back three
Further I think it gives the manager more clout in terms of the players, board, press and fans in that he can say "right, I've tried it your way and you didn't get the results, now we're doing it my way". Don't underestimate how important that could be among the squad.
Lastly I would say blindly making changes as a new boss is often misjudged, particularly by younger managers trying to make a mark. I think it shows great astuteness of Conte to wait and be pragmatic but in a context where he has had some time. All too often you get new comers desperate to appear in control where they may well change some thing which doesn't need changing in order to demonstrate authority with little reason, it is a common weakness not restricted to football. For me this was was AVB all over, worked under Jose so essentially took his system but as a weak man (sure he has grown through experience) was compelled to change something so inverted the midfield with a disregard for the balance of the team in order to shake off Jose's shadow, it smacked of exactly what he was trying to avoid and I'd have respected him more had he just stuck to a system he had picked up and worked rather than show a lack of appreciation for the mechanics of it by tinkering when it only served his ego.
For me Conte has judged it perfectly.
Think he just withered away in Russia. It's a shame, the 3-4-3 looked tailor made for his qualities and it only began it's resurgence in Italy shortly after he left us.

I'm inclined to agree with that, your whole post but that paragraph specifically. LVG tried to force it on United and it backfired on him, may well have done the same to Conte.
Ah well. It's working now, that's what's important I guess

You're telling me conte couldn't have convinced cuadrado that he had a part to play in our squad and that he should give playing in England another try?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes and it is well documented

He couldn't guarantee him game time and Cuadrado had already established himself in the Juventus squad.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Batshuayi had established himself in the Marseille squad and there was no guaranrtee of games at Chelsea. If conte had wanted cuadrado to stay he would have stayed and if conte had planned ahead he would have known he needed cuadrado
