I think the England team could be pretty decent if Southgate is given the money to spend. I think that’s been the issue over the last 10 years. England have just been 4 or 5 big name signings away from getting to a major final. I think the only stumbling block is the price of top players these days. Hopefully the FA will finally back the England manager with some proper cash to spend.

They need to make the work permit process easier for young players to play for England.

England are the biggest spenders in international football and should really be getting better returns for all the money they spend.

But England don't offer the big wages that the likes of Costa Rica and Iceland do, so it's difficult to attract the players.

At least give the man a chance for before writting him off. Are you journalists?

Once he has failed is the time to have a go at him, but I'm all for waitnig until that happens (and as its England I have no doubt it will) before having a go about him.

I have tried to get in to the mindset of a fan of every other premiership club. And i can't imagine even Palace who are now without a Manager, wanting Southgate and was he not their player for about 7 years?

I don't understand why talented players just aren't being selected...

Moses, Bale, Coleman, Ramsey, Wes Morgan...

Southgate
Allardyce
Hodgeson

Quite the all star lineup they've had this year.

It's a team going nowhere. So may as well be somebody like southgate. Fergie wouldn't make the current crop potential world cup winners.

Personally, I always believe an English Manager should be in charge of the England team.

Southgate isn't the best we have, but he's the best young English Manager at the moment that's available. He has had good experience with the young English players, let's see what he can do.

However, in the long halt he's a below average Manager that wouldn't get a Premier League job in the top half of the league.

I was thinking about this the other day and couldn't even get past the defence.

Seaman
Neville Terry Rio Cole

No one in the current batch of players is remotely close to any of those players.

Sorry it's the season of goodwill but what does Steve Holland do exactly? He's sat on the bench for countless Chelsea managers looking glum and doing nothing. He may well do some type of training but was he responsible when Chelsea were terrible last season or was he responsible for them winning the league? Point is, Conte has probably seen he's not much kop and wants him gone. Southgate obviously will take him. The most pointless man in football gets another pointless job. Merry Christmas Steve.

We've failed using the tried and tested managers, so why not give someone with fresh ideas a chance? He's done a good enough job with the U21s.

England football team? Faaaaack is that shower still going?

I wouldn't even worry about a manager, England don't have the capacity for anything other than mediocrity.

Pump the manages wages into the grass roots football instead

The USSR was dominant in sport, then the breakup and Russia isn't nearly the force USSR was. Is England a country or is the UK a country? A combined UK team that worked together for a good period of time would be better than England, look at how well Wales has done, and England would have benefitted by Welsh players like Bale. What other country splits itself up in pieces for sporting events? Sorry to spoil the theme of the post but this really irks me to no end. End of rant, oh, and why can't we use the Colonial players?

I would happily see Southgate get the job...

...at Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, United or City

Such a boring man, I can't see him firing our players up at all.

I maintain we are culturally different from other nations, and what works for other nations does not necessarily work for us.

I think the perfect England manager needs to be a strong character, but not arrogant or overbearing. One of the lads, but 100% the alpha male. Venables ticked these boxes and the players responded.

I think Redknapp would have been perfect for England myself - when Woy got the job - in that regard

The players may not be of the quality of yesteryear, but a proper team of decent players will beat a disjointed one with stars in
