If we put up a squad with the same restrictions from the Spurs roster, wot would it look like?

posted on 10/1/17

Cech
Jenkinson Holding Chambers Gibbs

Ramsey Wilshire Ozil

Walcott Sanchez Welbeck/Ox

Ramsey is Welsh but British so not sure if he would be considered Foreign as he isn't English lol, if he can't be included then would have to play Ox in his position but no holding midfielder so would have to sign an English holding midfielder.

Five foreigners maximum per match day XI.

And what defines someone as "foreign" is their passport.

As things stand, it is just Mercenary XI versus Mercenary XI. There is virtually nothing left about Arsenal, Man City, etc.. that is English!!

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Errrrm we have Walcott, Ox, Welbeck, Gibbs, Wilshire, then Chambers who is still young, Holding another we signed who has made a few appearences. Jenkinson still an Arsenal player but unfortunately most likely not for very long, Iwobi also is English but chosen to play for Nigeria instead. Seems like a lot of English there. Few currently on loan then another few injured then the other few are squad players.

Seeing as Cardiff and Swansea play in the English League and all of the home natons have GB passports it would be very difficult to say no

Racist. UEFA should impose a rule where you are only allowed one homegrown player, in the interest of equality.

I'm fed up of people bad-mouthing foreigners and the job they have done for football in this country.

How damaging to our Premier League would that be?
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Very.

Would restrict the clubs outside of the top 6 to primarily seek English players at a premium rather than cheap prospects from abroad, which would make them weaker/make the PL less competitive. If the PL loses it's competitive edge, it's #1 point of appeal worldwide, foreigners stop caring and the TV deals begin to diminish. The PL becomes another Serie A, no money, little competition, low standard of football by and large.

The only positive argument is improving the prospect of the national team by creating opportunities for English talent to play regularly in the only league that gets them noticed. But first and foremast I'm a fan of the game, the league season lasts 9 out of 12 months year in year out, England play a major competition once every two years... I'll take the fearlessly competitive PL thanks

Fully agree.
The idea of introducing 7 subs rather than 5 was to increase the chances for youngsters of at least being in the match day squads.
For us, that means seeing Winks, Onomah, CCV regularly getting on the bench and introduced.

If clubs were able to do the same it would halve this discussion, but the need for instant success means managers are reluctant to take the chance.

Wouldnt something like this go against immigration laws or something

Might improve our national side....eventually....but it's not a given

Providing British players count, which they do currently under home grown laws...

Danny Ward
Joel Matip
Joe Gomez
Nathaniel Clyne
James Milner
Jordan Henderson
Adam Lallana
Kevin Stewart
Roberto Firmino
Daniel Sturridge
Phil Coutinho

Barring a possibly less dynamic midfield, I don't think this would damage us hugely. Considering the likes of ejaria, Woodburn, TAA on the bench all have obvious potential.

I don't think this would damage the top clubs as much as it would've done 5 or 6 years ago.

At the end of rafas time at the club wed have struggled to field 8 British players in all honesty.

Do you mean discrimination law?

It has nothing to do with immigration law.

That too.

What if a player gets citizenship after joining the club?

Unless they were already entitled to apply for a British passport on the grounds of descent, for example, they would need to have been in the country for five years before they could apply for citizenship.

The restrictions proposed would not impact or be impacted by immigration law.

Marriage?

posted on 11/1/17

If this idea, noble in its endeavour were implemented, would result in a drop in quality of footballers. Drop in quality would lead to a drop in income and there the story would end. For club owners that's the bottom line, money. Nothing else matters.

And what if the idea was implemented in bonny Jockland? With the sale of football pitches for youths to play on, commented on by no less a figure than our King Kenny in his homeland in Glasgow, with absolutely no talent to match his, or Souness, or Jocky coming through, could Scottish football actually get even worse?

And who's to say it isn't happening south of the border? The sheer number of foreign players alone dictates reality. We are simply not producing the youngsters with the sufficient skill here in the U.K. to make the idea viable.

Apologies about the negativity.

Under current EU regulations we cannot prevent players from other EU countries coming to ply their trade here.
It will be very interesting to see how that holds up when we leave the EU.
Blimey , does that mean Brexit holds the answer

Apart from a few of the clubs at the top of the Scottish Premier League it pretty much happens already. I go to watch Hibs a fair bit since I moved up here (ST holder) and most of the time about 9 in the team are Scottish, as is most of the bench. Since the end of the ITV and Setanta deals in Scottish Football the money here is no where near what the clubs have down south. Hibs could barely compete with League 1 clubs for players for example.
