Seriously Costa and China

Of course it's hypocrisy. They were more than happy to use their financial clout to cripple other markets. Now their bemoaning the Chinese doing the same to them.

--

I doubt its as simple as that

If China take a handful of players paying them a fortune to play against vastly inferior players then that will be detrimental to the game.

good point's lads

the other aspect is jobs and disposal income.

if English football is receiving such cash on a yearly basis how doe's the TV companies survive?

economies are never and steady tv subs etc are becoming ever more expensive. so jobs loses etc to the working man surely will have an effect on income etc to these companies then theres the streaming sites you can watch footie for free.

Like I say, it's a moot point anyway as the Chinese government are going to be capping spending.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
There's been once story printed about this as far as I'm aware. An unnamed "government official" said that they would look at placing restrictions on high fees and wages.

I wouldn't dismiss the clubs spending what they want on who they want just yet

The FT post I linked above describes it in more detail.

They're worried about clubs essentially laundering money out of the country thru these deals to avoid paying tax to the Chinese government so I suspect the state will clamp down on them and auditing/keeping a very close eye on each deal.

Clicked it but it talks about subscribing to read.

I've commented on a few of these CSL threads over the last month. I think there's an arrogance and naivety from some who dismiss the changing landscape so readily.

Sure, this level of spending may be unsustainable long term, but at the same time there's a massive market waiting to be tapped into. No reason to think the league won't grow massively. This is just year 2 of the 10 year plan

Quite a few posters in quite a few threads on here of late.

The bigger point being the threat to the traditional football markets being so quickly dismissed by folks. There's no telling how big that league can become

On that I would also dismiss any real 'threat'
For lots of reasons.

China will take a handful of top players
They will take a good few decent others.

This will increase the thirst of the people for Football which will filter back via TV to Europe and mostly the EPL.

I don't understand your train of thought.

If there is an increased interest in football in China, why would folks not watch their own league in prime time rather than the premier league in the middle of the night?

Record attendances and a hugely increased tv deal show the appetite is there for the domestic product

Agree its strange but the Chinese aspire to everything western and mostly British

The EPL is firmly in the system.

They will always view it as the best (even IF its not)
They see it as the real thing

It may change but you and I will not be around if/when it does.

Costa must stay to shut spurs and Liverpool! Up.

He may have a knock as he did not train, but Chelsea need him.

Money is vile in fitba now, but hey ho, such is life until folk change things.

Fair point, Mr ploppy, but wages in fitba and agent cuts are vile, when so many struggle.
Same goes for music, film etc.....disgusting money.

The pm gets 150k per year, or one quarter of a Tevez weekly pay😠Just silly and wrong, but in celeb land, acceptable????

Maybe Theresa May should play for Chelsea
What others earn is irrelevant should the clubs make all the money and the players get very little even though they are the guys who draw the criwds
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Think players do OK.

Bless em all
