The MD has also made another bold statement. Perhaps we should bookmark this one to see if LD speaks with forked tongue like JM did!!

I think we are a long way from where we need to be to dominate this league, move up into the prem and then progress on from there.
We have several players who, call it what you like: playing out of their skins, punching above their weight whatever, but they are simply over performing and the problem is that they can only do it for short spells. What we need are players who are genuinely talented enough to go out and perform week after week, against any opposition. We also have some of those. Do we have 11 of them? probably not. Do we have 18 of them? No, we do not. This squad is threadbare and needs significant strengthening in the summer, otherwise I predict another season of disappointment.

I think a few hve been fooled by our performances of late, or should i say the cup performances of late.

All very well pulling out shock results when most of the game has been spent being reactive and conceding possession but our bread and butter is the championship and we have actually lost 3 of the last 6 because what works in the cup simply will not work well enough in the league.

I have faith in Lambert to figure it out for next season and i hope he uses what we have left this season to experiment ways in which we can take the game to the opposition and start to dictate play on our terms.

Cup performances? It's eleven against eleven, same as any match, and the side has shown their ability against Premier opposition. Why differentiate?

I hope so too but I'm afraid he doesn't have the players to "take the game to the opposition and start to dictate play on our terms".
I know you are accused of 'banging the drum' and maybe you have overstated the weaknesses in the midfield but at the end of the day I am in agreement with you that the need for strengthening lies firmly in central midfield and until that is addressed we are going nowhere.

Because the difference is glaringly obvious Bute. Stoke cup game, Liverpool cup game, Norwich league game, Burton league game. The difference in performance is plain to see.

Ilogical though. Can you say Wolves were bound to do well at two difficult away games at Premier clubs, because it was a competition under a different name? Given that the side hasn't had a good record in the FA Cup for many years, I don't think those excellent wins were ever automatically expected.

Ronan and Nazon replaced at the half.

Sounds like both were involved plenty going from twitter, sounds we are hard done by to be trailing as well.

Gladon started also

except that he is being payed by the club and therefore we might as well utilise his skills, which I assume, are more than adequate at that level

Well yeah, i guess they are Wulfrun but him playing blocks the way for one of ours who will be here next season unless of course we don't actually have anyone adequate for the role though i guess Deslandes is out on loan.

It doesn't need mentioning. we all know he will start far less games next season.

149 in attendance, one of the big failings of Football, the lack of interest for youth football, quite sad.

To be fair an effective midfield could easily include Dangerous. He just need the right players alongside him. Last week he said that he loves playing with Jack Price and obviously we haven't seen Price since. That having been said I am still not convinced that Jack Price is as 'classy' as some people make out. My opinion is that he is the best central midfielder we have. As far as Evans and Saville are concerned, they both work hard and put in a shift but they are not the creative players that we need to get the strikers striking.

posted on 7/2/17

Interesting that Edwards and KMac both have the same opinion regarding Jack Price.

He is the best midfielder at the club for me and i would like to see him alongside Evans for a bit to see how that works, or Saiss of course.

A first half review from somebody at the game

Just back from watching the first half. Pompey's numbers 2, 5 and 8 looked senior players.

For us (1st half only, pls note)
CBJ again looked good going forwards but was (again) sometimes well out of position when they broke, either being too far upfield or because he had drifted too far inside;
Conor Ronan was playing deep CM, some excellent passing (long and short) and so comfy on the ball - the goal was from an exceptional free kick (Duck fouled just outside the area);
Gibbs-White was busy but sometimes running into blind alleys/misplacing passes - but at 16 he's a prospect;
up front the Duck showed some pace, started well by running at players with the ball but then drifted out of the game, Gladon did some decent aerial work defensively at their set pieces but showed little in the top third of the pitch (little service, mind, no accurate crosses for him in dangerous areas)
