The OP used "British", so I questioned in line with that. Gin Palace answered in line with that also. I don't understand the problem.

"We lack grit and British managers are the best at creating teams with grit."

How many of these gritty British managers have won the league...? Or even gotten close?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
SAF, Brendan Rodgers came v close, before him there were loads George Graham, Howard Wilkinson, Bob Paisley etc
----------------------------------------------------------------------
No point going historic because the OP is talking about a gritty British manager in place of the supposed overflow of foreign managers. So from your list... SAF? And Rogers?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Well to be fair mate SAF is the epitomy of a gritty old school British manager and he didn't do too badly.

Having said that there aren't any current Brits who warrant a top job at the moment.

I'd give it to Simeone but he wouldn't fit in with all the old Etonians which make up our Board members
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Gin, I agree with you. My point (initially to the OP) was that the list of these managers who have won the league (or gotten close) is so small that to focus on wanting a gritty, British manager isn't (in my opinion) the right way. Grit is good but the game has gone so far beyond that. I don't care where a manager comes from but what I DO care about is improvement of the British game, whether it's changing the way grassroots football is played or better use of British players. And if a British manager warrants a contract at a big club, great, but not solely on the basis that "British managers are the best at creating teams with grit"...
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah agreed. Simeone has all the 'grit' you could want but is South American. Players such as Suarez and Sanchez also have that combative attitude which we used to ignorantly think was the sole preserve of British players.

As an aside, I was reading yesterday that Troy Deeney reckons Ramsey bottled the challenge for his goals last week. Can't imagine Paddy Vieira or Sanchez doing the same

There are Managers out there like Conte who won't take any nonsense from anyone so I think it's their personality which is important rather than their nationality

The OP asked for "British" and "grit". I say you can't look any further than Tim. He will smash heads together and get you playing with more fight.

Brendan Rodgers is very happy at Celtic - a massive club with a world-wide fan base and a fantastic history/tradition. He will be here for the next 3/4 years

That said, it is good to see the OP showing BR the respect he deserves

Love child of Arry Redknapp will say things like 'get in there!!!' 'they don't like it up em' and suchlike. Sanchez will stare quizzically before saying in Spanish to Bellerin ' why iz diz donkey herder talkin to uz?'

Yee - you're a mind reader?

Brendan has been a Celtic Fan all his life, as was his departed father. He will leave us one day, no doubt - but certainly not until he been here a few years and made an impact in Europe

You may mock it but sometimes that can be the best way to go.

Maybe you should just go with Redknapp then?

oh come on

zero competition in Scotland at the moment. Technically Celtic are seen as a "big" club. Was always going to do well. Just upping his stock for a move back to a decent PL team.

You're contradicting yourself, mate. If there is zero competition, why would managing Celtic "up his stock"?

Also why say "Technically Celtic are seen as a big club" Does that mean from a non-technical perspective, we are a small club?

Maybe your lot should get him back in and raise your stock up a notch. From what you're saying, with him at the helm, London will definitely be all about a cok on a ball...!

it would up his stock because celtic are seen as a big club by a lot of people.

if he actually had any balls he would have gone back to swansea to prove himself again.

and while we are at it you are tecnhically a big club because you win trophies and have a large stadium.

but you really are an average club because if you went into an actual competative league you would get relegated.

if smashing about caley thistle and co every other week gives you the feeling you are a big club then good for you

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Tbf Celtic have large support around the world and would (I believe) do well on that basis in any league eventually (i.e when the increased revenue has been spent on upgrading the squad). Not their fault that they play with the likes of Hamilton Accies and Glasgee Rangees
