Having said all that AJ, Russell is still better than Blackman, Anya, Camara, Yman and Vydra.
No he isn't he's woeful & before you start slagging off the players you've mentioned none of them have had a decent run in the team this season like Russell has.
Jorv. I am the official representative for the traditionally much needed Scottish contribution to the Derby cause.
Russell is ace. Anya nearly ace and improving . The rest ........pah!
Sorry Heb but he hasn't improved his game in the past 2 seasons, time to move on. There's no room for sentiment in football............

So it's OK for you to call the excellent servant to Derby County who cost not much, woeful, but I can't comment on a load of expensive rubbish, is it?
The reason the mentioned players haven't had that many games is because they don't deserve their place in the team, they are very poor signings. This is what makes me worry when people say we must get rid and sign 6 or 7 players. Who is to say whether they will be any better than what we've already got?
Imagine football, in Scotland, without sentiment.
Who took the corner lads?
If that's meant to be a WUM it's pretty desperate.

I didn't say you couldn't comment, can you not read man? I'm saying that they haven't had the same chance as a player who appears to have reached the top of his game & not improved the team or himself for the past 2 seasons. Keep your rose tinted glasses on if you want but he is not good enough at this time & shouldn't be an automatic first team starter
Blaming Bent, when he has been our only bright light up front this season, is daft.
Our midfield scoring rate as a whole, is appalling.
"There's no room for sentiment in football....."
But a bit of objective thought might be useful, Jorv
ie not influenced by personal feelings, interpretations, or prejudice; based on facts, unbiased.
The whole team lost. That was no more down to Russell, than it was to Bent, Butterfield or the others, that's all
Ang, I don't wish to pick on individual players, it's main reason I'm not attending games at the moment. You are right it is the whole team that win, lose or draw but when people on here say that this & that player are rubbish when in my opinion haven't been given a decent run of starts in the first team to properly settle into the team seem to me myopic when players who try hard but get no end product, like Russell are the darlings to them.
Sorry Jorv, but that's bo//ocks.
Players are in the side to perform. If they don't, they're entitled to be criticised and should expect it.
Should we give that joker of a referee more time even though he had a huge influence on Villa winning the game through pure incompetence?
No
Seems like you are picking on an individual player at the moment though, but I accept you're not the only one. I suggest that there are good reasons why the coach picks Russell over some of the others in that position. The team certainly seems to play no worse when he's in the side, arguably better.
Like you, I've not been to many games this season, but I will wait until I watch the full game, before I make any conclusions as to who played well or not. Even if there are some players I don't particularly enjoy watching, I won't come on here and call them woeful
Strong stuff. Meanwhile I will continue to fight the cause for our Scottish contingent, despite never seeing them play, and however rubbish we may be.

AJ, so players that haven't had their chance to justify their transfer fee can be slagged off but players that haven't improved in their last 2 seasons (not just Russell)are sacrosanct? That's a bit cockeyed youth.
We all love a player to be hard working & to give his all but there has to be more than hard work.
Ang, I don't want to sing Russell out, I like that he gives his all but at the moment he's just another nearly players that have been at Derby over the years
Heb, like AJ says it's nothing to do with being a kilt wearer
As poor as JR's form has been he is still better than the 3 players that have been signed as replacements, which begs the question who is scouting and sanctioning these signings?
Not sure what Weimann has been like in training but he hadn't been given the run in the side that I'd have liked be it through injury, but the fact that 4 different managers didn't fancy him tells its own story.
I will be alarmed if we continue to target small lightweight players in the summer because we are seriously lacking in height and prescience throughout the side.
I know you are trying to be fair to certain players, Jorv, but they have had several chances to prove their worth. The fact is they have not been effective in that position, which is why they have not had a run in the side.
JR has not been in good form, he's honest enough to admit that, but he has performed well in a 433 in the past. Like other members of the side, Hughes & Bryson for example, he is missing someone to play off, who can hold the ball up and create openings.
His replacements have shown flashes, but no more and I can't recall them making a major impression in games. You may say that they've been played out of position, but ask JR what his favoured position is. Probably not left wing.
Apparently, Mason Bennett did well on Saturday and deserves a further chance. I'm all in favour of that. However if he fails to provide adequate cover for the left of the defence, as well as doing the forward stuff, he will not get a run in the side either.
Unfortunately for his detractors, McClaren thought that Johnny was 'excellent' on Saturday
On another note: Where's Vidal these days?
Still on his hols, Baz ?
đ
There is no lack of effort from Russell but its not happening for him at the minute. He's losing the ball virtually everytime he takes a full back on. The end product is the worrying bit not lack of effort. Clement & Pearson have quite a bit to answer for with some signings.
When was Johnny Russell last in form??
This season he has one goal and no assists, think that speaks for itself
Wouldnt be nowhere near the first team for me
