Quite crazy that for the first 12 years of Selby's career he won 1 ranking title. In the last 6 years he's won 11 & 5 of them this year!

Crazy progression. If this was any other sport he'd be getting investigated weekly for doping.

Run of the ball in these close matches is always vital, and Selby has certainly had the snooker gods with him these last few years when it matters.

Good player mind, granite on the table, but awful to watch and more jam than hartleys

He's certainly the man to beat, and a deserved winner. Higgins didn't make enough of his chances, and it's probably his last world final.
Even though it finished fairly close, there was an air of inevitability about it all. It's going to take a tough man to knock Selby off the top.

I know the draw was based on rankings but I hated the draw this year, after the first round, I knew Higgins would get to the final as Ronnie, Selby, Ding, Robertson, Fu, Murphy were all in the top half.

Congrats to Selby for winning, a worthy champion.

Wonder if for next year they can separate it slightly? Draw the matches then make it fair with who plays who. Not sure the rankings are a definite for a players quality.

Thanks again for your company this year - biggest contribution yet. Hopefully see you all for the UK in December. I won't be on this site as much after the end of the football season but I guess I'll carry on the snooker threads as and when - popular one this year!

RKW - I knew you couldn't desert us,

I don't think there is any other way you can (or should) do it other than rankings. It sometimes happens that one side is more lopsided than the other. If the players perform to their expected level, then I think Selby would be 1, if Ding can maintain this new found improvement then he would be 2, probably followed by Trump and someone like Fu. Robertson looks to have regained his mojo and should go up, and although 2 now, I expect Higgins to drop a bit. Ronnie will always be a dangerous lower ranked 'floater' because of his limited appearances, and expect Kyren Wilson to move up.

Looking forward to the new season already.

Don't know what to do with my evenings now with no Snooker new season won't start till like end of June I think.

Yeah, the lack of snooker really brings home the crushing loneliness and bleak pointlessness of life.

Suppose I couldn't desert the snooker pals on here

Not sure what other tournaments people watch or comment on other than the three major ones in the UK?

Difficult to follow some tournaments closely due to time difference.

I see there's a programme on Sky about Selby tonight at 10pm.

I think I did actually follow nearly all of the tournaments this season although some of the tournaments I did still miss a lot of action due to work and time differences with some tournaments etc

I still can't get these two above to bite about their football teams though. Maybe on Sunday, eh?

It was 40 years at the Crucible, yet it was the 41st crucible championship.

Isn't that the same as saying you're 40 years old but technically in your 41st year of living?

posted on 3/5/17

No, 40 years at the Crucible Yes, but not 40 tournaments.... 41... My birthday is in December so people always put a year on me... Which is annoying..
