Chicago fire and coukd be gone within a week for those still trying to understand the article

Chicago fire have confirmed it. He's gone. Not at end of season, he's left now.

A lot of money coming off our wage bill. Rooney's next most likely.

Good luck to him, seems odd to let a competent midfielder (who could fill in at the end of games to rest players, or against poor teams at home) go at a stage where our players are so knackered they're eating bananas on the field, but if he's never going to get a minute then fair enough.

Good luck to him

Not a surprise

Camped on the United board again

Remember when Brenda isolated club legend slippy G?

I don't think he has pl football in him on a weekly basis. Nothing to do with ability. He came here too late.

Good luck to him. The man may not be a utd legend but he's a legend to the game. Great man and great player.

Good luck to him. Leaves with his dignity in tact and the respect of the fans. Let's face it, he was treated poorly this season.

It's a great chunk of money off the wage bill too by all accounts.

Not really. Mourinho didn't fancy him, rightly so, his time has past. Couldn't find a buyer sooner so he didn't get a lot of game time. That's football.

Called it ages ago. He was seen with the Chicago manager in Manchester a few months back. Should never have signed him with his injury record and stage of his career.

Would have killed to have signed him back in 2006 though.

I don't think Kash was referring to the lack of playing time, which can be justified to an extent. It was the unnecessary demotion to the youth team set up that showed a real lack of class.

The move makes sense....not entirely sure why it took so long though, all a bit odd, guy is ostracised from first team, looks odds on to be first out the door in January, then brought back into squad, hardly plays at all, then hangs around until almost April.

Still, between morgan/memphis/bastian that must be close to £400k a week off the wage bill, enough to pay for rooney's upcoming contract.

Never agreed with his signing but the way he has been treated is a disgrace.

Good luck to him - more class than many in the game.

Not really a disgrace.

Jose came in, told Batsian very clearly that he wouldn't be part of his plans and that Bastian could leave.

Bastian didn't leave, collected a huge amount of money - around £2.5 million by my calculations- to sit around and finally make this move.

We even wrote him off as an asset on our books and now he gets to move for free and get a nice signing on bonus.

Jesus the way some go on is embarrassing, it's almost as if the guy wasn't still raking in 200k a week or close too.

And being forced to train with the kids?

Come on.

The guy is a German legend and should have been a part of the squad.

Are we now saying it's risible for a player to have the desire to prove himself worthy of a place in the side?

posted on 21/3/17

Feck, this was out of the blue. Really hoped we could've used him more as an option when Carrick need resting. Best of luck to the guy, nothing but huge respect for him.

It's just how Jose does things. If you are part of his plans you train with the first team squad. If not, you don't. It makes sense that you keep the players who will be playing in one group.

To Joses credit he even went against his own rules and allowed Bastian to come in and train. Even gave him an OT farewell appearance (which in my opinion the fawning was a bit OTT being that the guy was less of a United legend than Darron Gibson but hey ho)

Why do people keep saying the way he's been treated?

He's going to the MLS. That should tell you all about how right he is (or rather isn't) for the rigours of pl football.

I don't think Jose dislikes him or doesn't think he was a truly outstanding player. That was then though. When i look at him he looks overweight and a lot less mobile than he once was.

Good luck to him. I think it's a footballing decision to not play him. Not a personal one.

But that was never the case.

He very publicly met with the Chicago manager back in October so this move was on the cards for ages. He was never gonna change anyone's mind.

People certainly seem to be quick to forget that under LVG a) he was frequently injured, b) when he wasn't injured he generally wasn't very good, and c) there were stories flying around last year of "senior United players" being unhappy that much of his recuperation from injury took place in the crowds of various tennis matches all round the world, to the point where they had a word with him.

'it's just how Jose does things'.

I know.

And I think the way he does things is often classless.

Class is an abstract term though
