The only positive I can think of is IF he announces this is his last contract it will give the club time to prepare for his departure or move 'upstairs'

It'll annoy you.

Even if it will also mean the constant stream of awful articles continues.

The squad stays intact.

These are still the same lads who put a good run of games together earlier in the season. Contrary to popular belief, they didn't just turn to crap overnight.

I don't understand what has changed that makes it more likely he will stay? Surely the likelihood of him staying is the same as it was a week ago, 2 weeks ago, a month ago even?

Every single newspaper contradicts itself everyday with whats going on, so don't pay them attention.

It will be more of the same speculative journalism for the foreseeable future, until someone over at the club's PR department finally pulls their finger out.

Must be an absolute mare for them at the moment. I'm pretty sure a decision has already been made by the suits upstairs, and all that remains is getting the timing right before they drop the bombshell.

Do they announce he's staying and see how it goes with the season ticket renewals? Or do they drag it out until one of our pre-season trips in mid-July ?

More banners, more division, weak mentality, possibly no CL next season! No investment. No sanchez!

Great entertainment on ArsenalTV

Wenger has become a very divisive coach, and that can lead to trouble

Redknapp was a very divisive manager at Spurs - albeit nothing like Wenger is now. When he left, a big chunk of fans that did not like him were delighted, and a big chunk that did like him were upset.

AVB took over, and those who hated Redknapp took to AVB, whereas those who were loyal to Redknapp went against AVB. The football became boring which further antagonised things further.

It took the Ground Zero of Sherwood to level it out and lay the groundwork for Poch to take over, and unite everyone again.

Quite simply - your next coach has to be relatively succesful immediately, and also to play good football. If he does not achieve both you have civil war (melodramatic I know) on your hands

If you think that this squad can put a decent run of games together, the I think you must be delusional. This current squad is devoid of winners, leaders and mental strength. A quality A mentions nearly every game as if he wants to telepathically project that to his weak bunch of players. No. This squad needs some serious overhaul and it's best done by another manager.

Re Gillespie Rd: Every dog has its day. Sunderland put together a good run every season at the end, but don't progress. Neither do Arsenal. The issue with some fans and the board alike is that that would rather play safe and keep Wenger than try to compete at a higher level. Don't understand myself, as I remember the George Graham days of success fondly and know that there is life-after Wenger, but each to their own.

yeah Sunderland on the same level as Arsenal. Wow.

What is your point? Please elucidate. My point is that putting a good run together is not reason enough to keep manager if from season to season the 'whole' is not improved. For you perhaps, but for many fans not.

What Den Hang Gooner is trying to say is we're nor progressing under Wenger

From what I can see Arsenal are only 2/3 top quality players from a side been able to compete both for the league and CL. 3 top quality players is going to cost £150m but will Wenger spend that. The £20m-£30m player range won't bring you to that next level.

posted on 24/3/17

Random numbers with little context there. It isn't the price of the player but the quality that is important.
We have regularly spent over £30m in the last 4 years, btw.

posted on 24/3/17

I mean, United spent £150m a couple of years back, and the likes of Di Maria and Shaw flopped and United barely should any improvement.
Ibrahimovic cost nothing, has he been a flop?

OK £20m-£35m then, however try to see my point will you. You have spent in excess of £35m once in 4 years. Top players are £50m plus you know that. These are the players that will take you to the next level.

Fine, keep spending 30m -35m on the likes of mustafi and Xhaka. They won't take you the the titleb or latter stages of CL.
