£57m Di Maria and £93m Pogba have hardly made you PL title contenders...
In fact £20m - £30m Herrera, Bailley and Mhkitarian all have looked better buys!
As I said, figures mean little. It is about getting the right player not the most expensive player. Alderweireld and Alli are far for flops over at Spurs, cost under £20m for the pair!!
I see what your saying and sometimes unknowns like Alli, Herrera, Bailley etc are gambles that work but it doesn't always work. If you think about the other players in the PL who are capable of taking teams onto another level (with help of other top players) Sanchez, Aguero, Hazard, Costa, KDB, Silva, Coutinho, Kane, Alli all would cost in excess of £40 if they were to be sold in summer for example.

Re Gillespie Rd: Every dog has its day. Sunderland put together a good run every season at the end, but don't progress. Neither do Arsenal. The issue with some fans and the board alike is that that would rather play safe and keep Wenger than try to compete at a higher level. Don't understand myself, as I remember the George Graham days of success fondly and know that there is life-after Wenger, but each to their own.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
yeah Sunderland on the same level as Arsenal. Wow.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
What Den Hang Gooner is trying to say is we're nor progressing under Wenger
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I know what he is going to say but to compare Sunderland survive fight with the Arsenal is a joke. Two FA cups in a row is surely an achievement.
Gunnerthru, you say my comparison is a joke, but what is your counter-argument? To simplify, I contend that having a good run of form in part of a season does not suggest progress is being made, hence the Sunderland mention. Am not quite how from that you conclude I am putting us at the same level as Sunderland.
Wenger is staying Sanchez is leaving we ain't getting any better and thats that.

Four players and we are competing on all fronts. Top class CM, top class DM, top class Santi replacement and top class striker. I think all would agree ?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Nope.
Same tactical flaws will still be there.
The Mentality is also still there.
To all Arsenal Fans, be careful for what you wish for...Arsene Wenger has built Arsenal and after he goes I don't think anyone can build a squad as good with the players they have.
'built Arsenal' - the two league titles, one FA Cup, one League Cup, and one European Cup Winners Cup in the nine years before he joined must have been some sort of vivid dream then.

Lets face it Arsenal were a shambles when Arsene came in. Give the guy some credit. Again there is no better out there.
I think shambles is a bit of a stretch for a team that had qualified for Europe the season before he came and had Seaman, Dixon, Adams, Keown, Winterburn in defence and Bergkamp up front. As has been said a million times before, he deserves credit for what he did in first ten years, but the last ten years of 'stability' could have been achieved by 100 managers.

Is this Barry's alt account?
I think there is a good chance it is the recently banned 'mauricechavez', tbh.
Hang on it wasn't that long ago he won back to back fa cups
For me, there is nothing more exciting as a football fan as your team getting to the cup final. Six wins is an incredible achievement; but I don't think it is a reliable indicator of progress. Wigan won a few years back and got relegated I seem to recall. A few years before that it was Portsmouth V Cardiff in the final.
All I am saying is give the guy a break. Firstly there is no better manager out there, secondly it is not like arsenal have completely gone backwards in the last 10 years. The same level, look at liverpool and Man utd. Do you really want to end up like that. Suddenly one bad year and of that it's a few months and he is the bad Guy. Also xhaka is in his first season, so give him some slack.
Firstly there is no better manager out there,

Agree we have not gone backwards since ten years ago (apart from maybe Champs League) but have plateaued, and may start dipping. However don't agree that there is no better manager out there, and don't think it is possible to really back that claim up. Who knows what anybody else could do? Who had heard of Wenger when he came? Whatever happens, the guy is not immortal and will not be there forever, so not sure what the great fear of the unknown is about, its just life.
