It was a good performance considering we likely had our minds on the Anderlecht game
3-0 away from home with some other clear chances missed will never be an average performance
Just a professional and routine win. We're in danger of overanalysing things so much we can't enjoy wins anymore

We will need to beat both city and arsenal to get top 4 so the 3 goal difference would be reduced further.
It's not like we stopped playing anyway... If zlatan had his passing boots on, we'd have won by 5.

We did learn something. That this season there are more decent sides and that to be the best one must try and compete in all the trophies
If we get Europa and come 5th it's a better season than say coming second and winning no trophies like Spurs may well do
I didn't see the game, but was keeping an eye on the updates on the BBC website. When I saw that Sunderland were down to 10 men and already a goal down, I was expecting us to put them to the sword in the second half. Having watched the highlights, that didn't really seem to happen. It didn't look like we created many chances?

It's all about playing the averages
We could go hell for leather and try to win 7-0 and possibly lose a player to injury for the Anderlecht game or we could just be happy with the 3-0 and go into the Anderlecht game with healthy players.
We did have a lot of counter attacks yesterday in the second half and had the final pass been better we could have had another 2/3
The tactics to bring on Rashford and Martial were positive

Injuries can happen at any time Robb. In fact, you are more likely to get injured if you aren't 100% committed to what you are doing in most sports. As I say, I didn't watch the full match, so don't really know how hard we were going at them, but there was no good reason in my opinion not to be trying to score as many as possible.

To be fair we did seem like we were going to score more as the second half went on. It was just our good counter attacks faltering as we got into the area.

Last 5 home games 4 goals for 2 goals against and 14th in form table.

Anyone taking yesterday as a negative needs to get a grip.
We scored 3 .... We hardly used any energy.... We will be in good shape for Thursday, both confidence wise and energy wise. Rashy scored, which is good for his confidence. No injuries.

agreed. not being negative despite winning 3-0. but considering we have tough games we should have taken advantage of the sending off and a poor Sunderland team considering pool, city and arsenal have better GD to us by 5.
Sometimes it actually shocks me how naive some people are on here at times.
Results this season, across the board, not only ours shows that there are no easy games in the PL anymore.
Liverpool and Spurs both failed to take 3 points at the stadium of light this season.
to make top 4, we have to win our games in hand, which in return will help take care of the goal difference.
We have a game on thursday, and a busy period coming up as the season ends..... why run yourself into the ground when a game is already won?
its all about picking up points at this stage of the season, trying not to pick up injuries and trying to onserve a bit of energy.
some people just love a good fecking moan, and this board is rife with those people.
There are a lot more examples this season than yesterdays game when it comes to missing tricks in the goal scoring department.
As for yesterday I don't recall many clear cut chances created especially when they went down to 10. There were some dangerous moves ruined by sloppy final passes.

----------------
To me, they were clear cut chances... we were 2 v 1 both times, Zlatan fluffed his pass for what would have been 2 easy goals.
3+/- GD is nothing though, especially as we have to play (and beat) the two teams closest to us forthe fourth spot.
We have zero fluency in attack, and I'm not sure it's because the players we have are just inadequate or whether it's because Jose chops and changes the line up so much.
Do we even have a defined best 11?
I have to say, I thought Pogba really underperformed. His composure and decision making in the final third is so poor at times. But he also shows moments of sheer class which makes it frustrating that he cannot be more consistent.
We won 3-0, but any other team in the top 4 would be putting 6 or 7 past that 10 man Sunderland team yesterday. They are dreadful.

We did learn something. That this season there are more decent sides and that to be the best one must try and compete in all the trophies
If we get Europa and come 5th it's a better season than say coming second and winning no trophies like Spurs may well do
-----------------------------
So in a game were the opposition are down to 10 men we shouldn't try our hardest to put them to the sword and improve our goal difference and give ourselves a better chance of top 4?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It's all about playing the averages
We could go hell for leather and try to win 7-0 and possibly lose a player to injury for the Anderlecht game or we could just be happy with the 3-0 and go into the Anderlecht game with healthy players.
We did have a lot of counter attacks yesterday in the second half and had the final pass been better we could have had another 2/3
The tactics to bring on Rashford and Martial were positive
--------------------
Injuries can happen at any time Robb. In fact, you are more likely to get injured if you aren't 100% committed to what you are doing in most sports. As I say, I didn't watch the full match, so don't really know how hard we were going at them, but there was no good reason in my opinion not to be trying to score as many as possible.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
To be fair we did seem like we were going to score more as the second half went on. It was just our good counter attacks faltering as we got into the area.

Anyone taking yesterday as a negative needs to get a grip.
We scored 3 .... We hardly used any energy.... We will be in good shape for Thursday, both confidence wise and energy wise. Rashy scored, which is good for his confidence. No injuries.

It was certainly a positive. It is just a question of whether we missed a trick in terms of improving our goal difference.

agreed. not being negative despite winning 3-0. but considering we have tough games we should have taken advantage of the sending off and a poor Sunderland team considering pool, city and arsenal have better GD to us by 5.

True.
But I can't remember a PL team that we've played recently as poor as that Sunderland one yesterday.
