At their respective peaks Rio was better. Rio's peak was short-lived though. Terry definitely takes the longevity accolade.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Rio was world class from his Leeds days up until the start of his last year with us so that isnfecking nonsense.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Jesus man, calm down.
Rio was always quality, but for me was only at his absolute best from 06-08. He was the best defender in Europe for those years.
For the years before and after, there is definitely a debate to be had regarding Terry. And Terry probably shades those years IMO.

Ha, terry > Ferdinand. Good one.
Rio was by far the superior defender, not even a debate.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It is a debate and Terry wins. Man Utd fans always think their player is the best, so annoying.
--------
John Terry himself said that Rio was the best and that everyone else was just trying to reach his level.

Nah. Terry at his peak was the number one CB in the world. Ferdinand never was number one.

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Shut up, you're embarrassing yourself
Ferdinand was the best defender in the world for seasons.
Terry never, ever was.
Terry never even reached Campbell's level.
He was carried by Carvalho when he played with him.

2002 World Cup. Rio was the best defender at the tourney.
2006-11 the man was untouchable for us.

Nothing new about a player complimenting his (international) team mate. Doesn't make what he said true. Mourinho once said Hazard was better than CR7.

You're an idiot. Terry >>>>> Campbell and Terry was better than Ferdinand. You said Ferdinand was the best CB in Europe between 06-08 but he wasn't even the best CB at United in that period since Vidic was better.
Look at the individual awards Terry has won compared to Ferdinand. Says it all.
"The only year before is when Rio was banned."
Huh?
"2006-11 the man was untouchable for us."
Hmm. He picked up his back injury around 2009 and was never the same player. He adapted to the loss of mobility eventually but he was not as good as he was pre-08.

Jesus people actually rating rio higher than terry? I know the guy was an ass off the pitch but that is baffling. Most pundits rate JT as the best player of the PL.
Technically better, one of the best passing cbs with both feet, braver, more of a goal threat, less mistakes and just all round better leader and player.
Would also agree vidic was a better defender than rio.
Why do utd players seem to get this sort of level once retired? same can be attributed to scholes and currently carrick who is on his way out. Get heralded to some untouchable status despite stats, ex pros, pundits and anything else going against what their fans say.
I'm sorry, did you say Terry was technically better than Rio?
Well, ladies and gentlemen, this site has officially heard it all.
Switch off the lights on the way out. Cheers.
yeah Robb, did you not see JT's passing and finishing over the years? I'll also take Carragher and others opinions over the deluded mancs on here.
Got some good fans on here but jeez the delusion from some is unreal. Plus the martin samuel of ja tells me all I need to know

Yeah, Terry wasn't bad at the technical side of things
But Rio was a class above him. Most would agree unless they are the kind of person who watches the news and thinks 'oooh, I do hope the Russians win whatever war they may one day be involved in'
His goals were fantastic finishes last night (I thought the second could have been saved), but felt his all round play was lacking.
It's the only time I've paid close attention to him though.

I don't think somebody suggesting Rio was more technically gifted than Terry is delusion, you may need to look the term up.
No it's delusional to think Rio is a better technical or footballer in general, than Terry. Laughable infact. I have not heard a single football fan say that, only read it on this forum.

Suggesting Terry is the best centre half of the prem is fair enough, when you look at his goals as well it would be hard to deny that but,if you think he is a better footballer than Rio you are deluded as only one of them could have played as a midfielder and Rio leaves Terry behind when coming out of defence with the ball.
As a pure defender with goals and 2 good feet Terry gets the nod.
Rio proved in 2 world cups what an outstanding footballer he was. Watch the games of 02 and 06 and he was possibly the best defender at those tournaments. Forget the nonsense club rivalries and try to be objective, there's even someone talking about Giggs ffs what has he got to do with best centre halfs?
