If anything, it is far more dangerous in the short term.
---------------
Is it?
I would say that destroying a young players confidence and sending him packing, only for him to rebuild and reach his potential elsewhere would be damaging long term. Look at what he did with De Bruyne. Any team would love to have him now. Had Jose taken a more long term approach then Chelsea could still be benefiting from his terrific ability.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Why do you think Shaws confidence has been destroyed?
-----------------
Where did I say anything of the sort?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Apologies but who are you talking about? I don't know of any player who's had his confidence 'destroyed' by Jose
---------------------
It was a general point about young players in response to the general point about players.
I actually don't mind Jose digging Shaw out, as I think it was his last roll of the dice. I am not keen on how often Jose criticises his players in public, but it is what it is.

And SAF didn't have a similar attitude?
He literally physically abused players. Didn't Beckham even need stitches after the boot to face incident? There have been numerous public feuds with players that all got "booted" out of the club. Makes Jose's treatments of Shaw and Martial positively insipid.
SAF handled himself differently in the latter stages of his career for sure, but he is the epitome of desire to win, ruling with an iron fist.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Not that I can remember Ferguson ever ridiculing players via the media. If he did indeed, he got himself to a position wherein he can do so and get away with it. Ferguson would've never lost the dressing room. Mourinho can, and if he does, he is getting sacked.
Like MUDD has said, long term this is never going to end well.
-----------------
and as RR said, things can change in football.
His issues at Real and Chelsea were not to do with calling players out in public.
We are all aware of his faults, but my god, some of you are so desperate to be "right" about him that you can't even enjoy our recent good run or the fact that some players have responded to something you don't like.
and yes, SAF has called out players... I can remember him blasting Nani after a carling cup game against Chelsea. Pep calls players out too, LvG called out Shaw, only last year.
SAF only very rarely called out players in public. I am sure there are other examples, but I can only really think of Nani and that was after weeks of standing on the sidelines screaming instructions at him and getting nowhere. I think it was pure frustration on SAF's part.
Jose has this season alone criticised more of his players in the press than I recall SAF doing in his whole tenure at United.
I think that there is a place for criticising players in public, but it seems to be Jose's default position when someone isn't performing. I have serious concerns over how that technique will pan out in the long term.
Why can't Man Utd fans just shut up and wait and see how Mourinho's approach turns out instead of assuming something bad will happen. Shaw seems fine.

This is ballacks and you know it. I do not like Jose, I never will and nothing he will do will change that.
I have been incredibly fair to him in spite of my distaste for him and in this very thread I am asking why only some players get the treatment?
The players are human beings and will be discussing these things among themselves.
I do not believe it is good management.
I have no desire to see Jose fail, I also will not paper over cracks or blow smoke up his arsene when he screws up.
This season has been a massive disappointment for me and most of it is down to tactics, moronic team selections and substitutions. I can think of 3 or 4 games in the league where we threw away wins3 points because of his negative approach to the game.
We would be in the title race but for those decisions.
I am no fan of Shaw but what Jose said about him was bang out of order. If he had said the same thing about Rooney, I would be cross as well.
This is not about being right or wrong but what is best for Utd long term.

Scholay, there's actually been quite a few. I've had a Google and this discussion is even going on in another forum. SAF said repeatedly how calling out players for public criticism is bad yet did so numerous times. There were a dozen + examples that I didn't remember listed and there's also quite a few articles about SAF 's public falling outs with quite a few of our star players over the years. Even more about the his brutal temper and the now famous "hair dryer" treatments.
I adore SAF but he was a dictator who ruled the club without tolerance of compromise for going on three decades. He was/is a genius but he was no saint. Rooney talks about the public humiliation some players felt being on the receiving end of a SAF hair dryer. He said some responded well, others cracked and wouldn't last.
You seem to have a pair of rose tinted glasses on in this matter. I understand as you've been pretty much constant anti Jose since before day 1, but no need to rewrite history. Jose's a jerk but he's a winner. He's actually quite similar to SAF in that regard.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
This
And he's seemingly looking safer and safer in his role rather than the opposite.
All that matters is the 90 minutes these players are on the pitch and in recent weeks lo and behold Shaw, Micky, Rashford and Martial have stepped up.
If what Jose said was hurting them they wouldn't. We've tried the nice guy route with Moyes and LVg and it got us nowhere.
