Maradona is the GOAT

The end
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Well yeah except messi and ronaldo are both better than him.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

All about opinions.

Would be good to see Messi and Ronald up against the likes of Gentile and Goikotxeia to see how they'd cope though. And vice versa, Maradona running freely in todays game without anyone trying to break his legs.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Can you imagine how many times messi/ ronaldo would gave fallen clutching a leg trying to win a free kick rather than scoring THAT goal?

Maradona was awesome, favourite player in my lifetime.

Hard to put a finger on a 'best' though.

Would Messi or Ronaldo have been able to lead that Argentina squad to World Cup glory in '86, or lift Napoli to two scudettos, not only past Sacchi's legendary Milan side, but bang in the middle of arguably the toughest era of league football anywhere, ever?

Would Maradona have ever had the sheer drive and determination to keep on turning in the consistency of Messi's performances or score at the astonishing rate today's guys have achieved?

Imo, the answer to all of the above is 'probably not', but perhaps due to the fact that football used to engage me emotionally much more, I do know that watching Maradona was that much more exciting.

It's not like he was on steroids. He was on Coke. If anything he deserves more plaudits for maintaining such a high level.

But it taints him, if he was to use that while playing who is to say he wasn't using performance enhancing drugs previously. He clearly didn't listen to the rules.

In the discussion for greatest player ever he deserves no part.

Loved him. Outrageous player who people tried to kick to bits.

This

Maradona and Ronaldo deserve to be mentioned in the same breath as Messi and Cristiano

In the rush to be part of the 'my time was the greatest' obsession people always want to say their generation was better than the last

Drugs have been rife in football for years and given the joke testing procedures nowadays, quite likely still are.

Germany pretty much won at least one World Cup on drugs, probably two.

The Dutch did plenty, as some of their own players have confessed.

Italy have had their fair share of scandals.

Almost any big star you lookup has had his name linked to PEDs.

It'd incredibly naive to think football's a clean sport.

Btw, Maradona definitely did do PEDs at least at some points in his career, no ifs or buts. He tested positive for nandrolone in '94.

Are you serious? Slight touch on messi and its a free kick.

Not only did maradona score that type of goal and better, just not the coverage of footie we have today, but he got hacked left right and centre

Players today can dribble knowing no one can touch them so you even get lallana looking good

Cristiano has obviously built the bigger legacy.

But with both players at their peak, I would choose to watch (and have in my team) the Brazilian Ronaldo every single time.
