Im the same VC, its why I always loved maverick players like Sevvy.

When Im in the trees I refuse to accept my medicine and play out, I will look for the gap and risk the ball coming back off a tree and knocking my teeth out.

That's why we play for fun not money.

Very true Mike, but my point stands there are very few mavericks left in the game, which is a shame.

Exactly what I would do as well. One of my golf buddies likens me to Phil in that respect.

I played this one shot at Myrtel Beach from in the Pines and said to him thus, 'I am going to hit it under that branch, then over that tree and onto the green' from about 180 yards.

I played a crisp 7 iron off the pine straw and heard this crash a second or so later. I hit the flag.

Mickleson is the closest now, tries some crazy shots.

People like Spieth are boring in every sense, the James Milner of golf.

Such a good feeling that

In fact, seeing your ball when you know you've connected perfectly and watching it fly down the centre of the fairway is a great feeling in general, one of the reasons for golf being so addictive.

The downside is that after the 240 yard walk to your ball, you follow it up by missing the green with a slice and then 4 putts.

Indeed. The times I have been just off the green in two and walked away with a six or more are staggering.

Can be very disheartening, and cause golf clubs to fly.

Anyone done a happy Gilmore off the tee? I destroyed a wood doing that and a putter (don't ask) I'd borrowed and ended up having to buy it back for the person I'd borrowed it off. The bloody head went further than the ball.

I've lost a putter head at the range as a youngster seri how effective it would be as a driver

Never Happy Gilmore'd it on the course but plenty at the range, good fun in fairness.

Done it a few times when it's been quiet. Occasionally hit a beast of a shot that screams up the fairway, but most of the time I'm looking for a new ball.

That's another thing. I've never played a round where I've finished with the ball I started with. usually it's about 4+ I go through.

I remember going once when I was younger at a council course, my mate only had something like 3 balls, lost them all on the first few holes. Was gonna lend him some but saw a bloke who used to walk round fishing them out the woods etc and selling them on in mixed bags.

He bought 10 balls off him, can't remember the price, took one out the bag and it was his first ball from earlier with his initials on it and he'd paid for his own ball

Playing this afternoon with a two suppliers and one other from my work, got all my clubs etc in the boot but realised earlier that my three most trusted/safe option clubs (4 iron, 7 iron, 52 degree gap wedge) are still leaned up by the back door after I gave them a wipe last week when I'd been at the range

Gonna be hacking it out the woods after being forced to use my driver from the tee more often

Update.

I should've called at home after work to pick up my sure thing clubs.

Play off of 10 having been down to 5, 6 seasons ago. Been absolutely shocking so far this season once again, shot my handicap in one stableford, 27 pts in the other and all my medals have been 94-95 gross around a par 70.

Got my first lesson for a few years in a couple of weeks time, so see if that has any impact!

Nice standard that Kenneth

I need to book myself in for some lessons with the pro this summer, last year or so I've become really poor with my driver and a little off in general.

Really does help having a lesson ever now and again to highlight what you're doing wrong etc.

I'm pretty poor with my driver. I've got a Taylor Made r1 (stiff shaft) and a Taylor Made r7 425 (regular shaft) about 10 years old.

I've never been able to hit the r1 properly despite all the adjustments you can make.

Might invest in a new one this week. Never been a fan of Callaway, and fancy a change from TaylorMade despite the reviews of the newest ones. Any ideas?

posted on 17/7/17

Only just seen this Sir Kenneth sorry.

I bought and sold an R1, could never get used to it despite as you say trying every adjustment I was driving terribly.

I've gone back to my Taylormade Burner Superfast 2.0 and will stick with that for a while, it's been good to me

My Mrs has bought me 4 hours worth of 'playing lessons' with the club pro near me for my birthday at the weekend. Can go out for a full 18 with him, maybe that and 9 holes if I choose a quiet time, or I'll probably use 3 separate 9 holes and play the back 9 on my own to work on what he's said.

I'm guessing she was picking up on how much I've moaned when I've got back from a round the last few months
