A little more digging, Lukaku's record vs:

Liverpool - 5 in 14 (Scored in 4 games)
Man City - 5 in 12 (Scored in 3 games)
Arsenal - 3 in 12 (Scored in 2 games)
United - 3 in 12 (that hat trick)
Chelsea - 2 in 7 (Scored in 2 games)
Spurs - 1 in 8 (Scored in 1 game)

Total - 65 games - 19 goals - Scored in 13 games

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Scored in 13 out of 65 games. That's awful

In LVGs last season people grew frustrated with Chicha as he wasted quite a few big chances in games we drew.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Eh ?
He was loaned out to R.Madrid in September 14 and then instantly sold off to Leverkusen in the following season.Overal Hernandez played 1 game for LVG with 1 sub appearance.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Maybe not for LVG then, I just remember myself getting annoyed with him missing big chances in his last season.
Would take him back but only if he was cheap and I doubt he would be.

Hernandez did struggle in his final season. I think that he became unmotivated. Probably thought that he had done enough to be considered the main striker, but Moyes never gave him that chance and he looked a bit disinterested.

I'm sure he'll post a positive slant on it somehow. Twist it in some way.
Whatever way you look at it a record like that for a player who could cost around 80m is dreadful

From what I remember LVG basically told him from the off that he (Hernandez) would be fourth choice striker.

A goal every 4.5 games. Not horrendous but not a £50m+ record imo.

One problem is not being able to take advantage of Pogba's passing. Watching this video you can see the many chances wasted last season:

https://youtu.be/isMCbBEh5Pw

Looking at goals scored last season by Lukaku, Belotti etc doesn't seem to provide an answer to that. Auba, Mbappe also don't answer that problem. One man that might, a striker not afraid of a volley or two:

He's a instinctive striker,Cavani. The more time he has to think about a effort at the goal the likelier he fluffs his lines. Not exactly a great player to watch either.Very gangly and awkward at times. But you cant doubt his record this season.Very impressive.

Cavani misses an absolute bucket load of chances also

Cavani would be brilliant for us and Mourinho I think.

Hope Aubameyang forces him out the side and into Old Trafford.

So do Aubameyang, Lukaku and most other strikers.

He scored bucket loads though, mainly through his very good footballing/strikers brain, the runs he makes and timing of those runs would be great for Pogba etc.

If there's a player who scores volleys for days like Hughes or RVP then thats where the money should go. If not, Cavani looks like the next best thing.

With every other name, we have just as good if not better in Rashford and Martial.

Remember the look he gave Giggs when Hernandez missed that penalty against Brugge? It was all over after that.

That's got me excited for next season already!... If he can start dominating games, it could be a huge season for him and the club.

How do you even define a cost for a player based on those stats?

He plays for a smaller club. Why would he be expected to score against all the big sides regularly?

Fact is he has a goalscoring record to compare against a young Rooney, a young Ronaldo, a young Owen etc

All at a smaller club

You said he doesn't have a bad record against the big team.

I simply pointed out it is far from a good record.

There's no question Pogba was very close to a few more goals hitting he woodwork etc, but the relatively low amount of assists doesn't do justice for how many chances he actually created and we wasted.

posted on 7/6/17

I'd go for Lacazette. Great goal record and has a bit of X factor where he can score from relatively nothing.

Over the last two seasons it's a good record - which suggests he's improving

He's a youngish player (just turned 24) so of course he's not gonna be at the same level at 18 that he is at 23 regarding scoring against better defenders
