GM on #lufc :"I loved it. My only thought was to be at Leeds but after discussions things weren't aligned for me to be able to do my best." I mean seriously?
its whether you believe that or that his head was turned by a bigger wage, contract and budget at boro.
personally think he went for money and maybe didnt like DoF idea.
Hands up who would leave for money and more control
Anyone who says otherwise is a liar
LIW, would you leave a club like Leeds to manage a club like Boro? Money aint everything.
Monk said he needed a new challenge. he failed the last one, and now wants an easier one it seems. It is worrying, Rad hasn't won my confidence yet at all.
yup its all fair game.
just disappointing when he said 'i have told the lads its about making history, not money'
yet doesn't apply the same rule to himself.
I am sure he left for 12 months offer, DOF installed and the likelihood that he will not be choosing the players. If he could get more money and more control elsewhere can't blame him for going at all.
Sorry Shaun - but long term security for your wife and kids will always trump everything else. Being politically correct and saying what people want to hear is one thing when joining a new club, what happens further on down the line for whatever reason is completely another.
Sorry Wilko, Gary Monk will always have decent offers at this level. He's earned that through certain aspects of success at Swansea and Leeds. It's not like he's going to be cleaning windows if he was sacked here no disrespect to window cleaners, Beckford was one of those
He could have stayed, done well and got given another year.
tbh we are miles behind boro right now anyway.
will probably be given 15-25m to spend there how he chooses.
stayed with us prob given 2m for orta to spend.
bigger contract, bigger wage.
just because leeds have better history than boro wont make him stay haha.
Will he always have offers? - certainly not based on the last 3 months of the season in my opinion.
LIW, would you leave a club like Leeds to manage a club like Boro? Money aint everything

We've done nothing for 15 years.
They average more than us last season, have been in prem more than us lately, and got a better chairman
Nah but your right, I'd stay at club because they had a great history 20 years ago, for less money and less control or less prospects

Fans can chest thump all they want - the above is very, very true (sadly).......
That being said I'd like to see a guy take on a challenge (i.e. less resources) to achieve something, instead of walking away. i.e. really test themselves and achieve something really memorable.
That's the point Wakey - Rich said it above also.
If you step back and throw our blind unconditional love for our club to one side, taking a dispassionate view of it as a career move with the risks involved it's been a poison chalice for far too long.
.....and as an any employee having erratic or very cynical employer is not a good start - just hope Radz is different.
hes got out alive and not been thrown on the managerial bonfire.
rest of them gone down leagues after managing us.
no doubt about it, his stock rose, perfect time to go searching for that higher up the league move.

How about actually the club being ambitious and giving a platform for people to not want to leave to smaller clubs
Seems fair enough. He wanted either a longer contract or more control/money than he was offered, so he is perfectly entitled to look elsewhere.
As for failing at Leeds, we had our most successful season since 2006, so I congratulate him for the 75 points, even if he wasn't perfect.
I think at present, Boro are more likely to get promoted than Leeds, so I wish him well.

couldn't agree more.
Just read his interview in the YEP and he does have a language all of his own............. made me chuckle. It's very "Monkspeak" in how he addresses things.
Good luck to him, he's moved on, so should we now.
didnt he say 'middlesborough is all ive ever wanted'
in the presser.
hilarious
Certain people around here would take a pay cut to manage Leeds!..
I said yesterday Monk isn't a fan so he has no loyalty to show, but then, if Grayson came back do you think he'd take a pay cut?..
Somehow it seems its good fans are showing their blind loyalty to the club, I mean if they were actually managing/coaching this club would they turn down a better offer elsewhere?..
I don't think so!..
If the talks were not what he hopped than its only right he went for the sake off both parties, I mean, we've had it long enough with coaches at this club being thrown out and he did last longer then any off them, so, good luck to the bod, I wish him well and hope however well he does we do better!..

Plain & simple YES !!

He is very media smooth isn't he
Abit sickly at times for me
The slow realisation from Leeds fans that Garry Monk was, this entire time, a generic auto-reply soundboard is pretty funny.
Yer expecting him to say why he left Leeds? He can't even answer what he had for fuc**** breakfast "of course, they're all important meals"
breakfast is important but let's not forget the other meals, they all chip in, it's a team game at the end of the day.
For sure it's a big meal but they're all big meals, I'm just focussing on the next meal and the next meal is dinner.
slightly amusing
Yep ........... and dare I say a bit full of himself in the way he speaks.
It reads as all about what he wanted, his demands, his requirements, his satisfaction. He's entitled to that, he's in demand. But really? In all honesty what has he achieved so far in his managerial career? He's no Van Gaal, Ferguson or Wenger - he's not really achieved anything of real note yet.
He did well for us, but the side dipped alarmingly when the going got tough towards the business end of the season. There seemed to be issues behind the scenes with some players, players were frozen out from the get go. This will sound like sour grapes, i wanted him to stay (more for continuity as much as anything), but I'm not devastated he's gone either. He still had much to prove.
