I'm not convinced Robb tbh... kind of depends on how he wants to play... 4231 or 433

Signing Matic gives us 5 senior midfielders... a 6th only really makes sense for a 433

and if he sets out his stall for a 433 all season.... it gives us other issues in we've 3 senior players vying for a Right sided forward (2 of whom are number 10's)

Martial, Rashford (as well as covering for the new striker should we sign one), Pereira plus probably a new winger vying for game time from 1 space on the left...

plus Rooney still to be fitted in if he stays... TFM...

Our squads a bit unbalanced... our departures could be as interesting as our signings

I'd like to see us sign Sanches (unlikely)

We need another box to box CM to take the strain off Pogba and Herrera.

Jose never really was one for rotating when he is happy with a squad either. It's never really been about numbers for him. Sure he likes depth but if you look at his Chelsea winning teams, you could pretty much name his 1-11 most weeks.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm not sure looking back at his time at Chelsea is very relevant.

They are a win at all costs club that don't really seem to plan to much for the future. That is the owner's wish, regardless of who is the manager. In fact, every manager at Chelsea seems to follow that same setup, smallish squad, not much rotation. (even rotating rafa).

was just about to say that other than fabregas vs matic, or pedro vs willian, you could have named conte's side for him for most of last season.

Even if Jose wanted to never rotate, he must now be aware of the injury curse at United

If he's smart he'll stockpile a decent squad for when it happens

There are a fair few at United who can already play CM, seems overkill to bring in another 2.

Pogba
Herrera
Fellaini
Fosu Mensah
Carrick
Rooney
Blind

Another 2 would leave 9 CM options.

Did Jose play Rooney in CM for a single minute? Or Blind, for that matter.

Jose has already said Rooney in CM is mental.

And Blind will never play there for us under Jose

"can" is technically correct, but rooney is hopefully off, TFM is untested, carrick can't start 45-50 games a season, jose doesn't seem to like blind in CM (though he would be an option for me), and fellaini may have his uses, but as a proper CM not for me.

We have a bunch of players that "can" play as a #9, that should not put us off trying to bring one in though.

I actually tend to agree, there are only 3 real CM's in that list of sufficient quality, one of which is Carrick who's at the end.

Though to add 2 CM's who goes, no point having more than 5 options in CM.

Where does Blind play then? I would get rid of him.

Fellaini could go but not sure who would pay him what he's on considering he's looked short on quality for United.

Fosu-Mensah out on loan for a season maybe.

CB or LB, like he did last season.

I'd keep him, for sure. Very useful player. I'd happily have him as our DM option, but Jose doesn;t seem interested. He wants a big guy.

But Herrera and Pogba are the only top midfielders there.

Fellaini does a job but not good enough to play regularly.

Fosu Mensah is relatively unproven.

Carrick was great but is 36 and past his best

Rooney is not enough anymore up top let alone in midfield

Blind hasn't played in midfield for over 2 years

The fans could have no qualms if Mourinho wanted rid of:

Smalling - Failed to deliver on his potential
Jones - Injury prone and failed to deliver on his potential.
Rojo - Probably good enough as cover.
Borthwick-Jackson - Failed on loan
Young - Finished
Rooney - Finished
Blind - Jack of all trades, master of none.
J.Wilson - Not good enough.
Fellaini - Not good enough.
Januzaj - Needs first team football.

Don't know if anyone would agree but I expected more pace to a revamp this summer.

It's better business to sell players once we've bought their replacements

Smalling- I'd keep as backup and let Jones go

Jones- decent player but too injury prone. Let go

Rojo- was very good last season. Hopefully can return the same

CBJ- another loan where he will actually play

Young- never lets us down and is versatile. Wouldn't mind if he stayed

Rooney- finished, I agree

Blind- valuable player to have

Wilson- hasn't lived up to his initial promise. Let go

Fellaini- still a decent option at times. One more season but playing a lot less.

Januzaj- see Wilson

I'd have plenty of qualms over selling Rojo, one of our top performers under Jose.... Zero chance of him being sold.

posted on 27/6/17

I think Rojo has done well especially last season, before that he gave me the fear every time I watched him. You're right though he does deserve another year.

Sanches and Fabinho would be ideal

Matic??

Id rather have Darren Fletcher back!

Agreed with some of the comments on Smalling, for me he is inconsistent, for a tall guy he gets beat in the too often, probably because he spends more time Pulling the opposing players shirt!
