Neither of whom fit the Galactico model. The Galactico model allows a club to spend £100m on a player if the club can recover it with branding. You cannot do that with a 18 year old. Mbappe will cost that much which is why Perez has said no.

Giroud's lack of pace is not an issue in International football. Though it is more important in tournament football which is why France have been more successful with Benzema than Giroud in recent years. At the moment France use Giroud as a physical presence to take the pressure of Griezmann or Mbappe. However as Mbappe matures I doubt anyone else will be able to challenge him for the striker role.

I don't see branding as an image, despite limited appearances, Mbappe already has a powerful brand. Not to mention RM would likely not own his image right, nor are shirt sales relevant to player signings. The only reason Perez wouldn't spend that sort of money on him is because he wouldn't be a guaranteed starter. Another year, playing every week for Monaco and he will be.

Perez's responsibility is to run Real Madrid's finances. When you buy a £100m player he has to play every week for him to maintain the profile that for Real Madrid to recover the initial outlay. We've done this to death Jenius and I think we'll just have to agree to disagree on the extent to which Giroud's lack of pace negatively impacts our play. Suffice to say, I think a functioning midfield is a bigger issue, especially when there is pace on the flanks to mitigate Giroud's pace.

The image rights might be licensed as part of a deal, but the extent to which they can be used is dependent on how any individual deal, hasn't got anything to do with the transfer fee.

And Perez's is role as president isn't an FD. Much more about maintaining the prestige of the club.

Off course it does. Its the central core. This entire model started with David Beckham. The transfer fee is far lower when image rights are already owned by third party companies. How do you think Real Madrid can afford those fees. Why would you pay those fees for anyone if you can't recover it? Perez is so proud of the model and often boasts Real Madrid recovered £30m in shirt sales alone when they bought C. Ronaldo. Real Madrid license every bit of C.Ronaldo's image.
