Terrible signing whoever ends up lumped with him. Totally finished as a player, go to one a retirement league in the MLS, Qatar or China.
That's the only way I can see United managing to get him off the books as he simply doesn't have it anymore.
Is it Summer 2018 he's contracted to? Stay at United then swan off to the States for a year or two.
2019 his contract expires.
He was given a 5 year deal in 2014.
Everton look to be building a good team and are going to need a striker with Lukaku very likely to be leaving.
That striker is most definately not Rooney, personally i don't think Koeman would entertain the idea of a return of Rooney.
If he does then he needs brain surgery.
I'd take him to be used as a sub, but I'd be gutted if he was signed as our main striker.

On £250,000 a week as well!
Everton would be lucky to have him. How many of their players out scored and assisted Rooney last season? That's with a bit part role too.
Everton's great work so far in the window would be monumentally ruined if Lukaku left and was replaced with Rooney.
Would be kind of funny though
If it's a move it's for commercial reasons and backup.
We won't be paying his wages in full. We won't be playing a transfer fee.
He will sell at least 30 extra shirts.
I was against it when it was suggested months ago, but, having listened at length to Beecroft, a journalist who seems to have a handle on all things Merseyside,he says it is a done deal, that he will be with us by Sunday,is not going on Man Untds trip to the States and will come on a free with Everton paying most,if not all his current Salary. He further stated that it will not be a loan deal.
I will reserve my judgment and hope that he is not used as a bit part player.
Look out for movement on the Giroud front too.
I will reserve my judgment and hope that he is not used as a bit part player.
==========================================
Trust me when you watch him play you would WANT him to be a bit part player.
Sounds like a free transfer, no loan. So whatever his wages are will be negotiated by the club and Rooney. There is no way on this earth we will pay £250k a week.
Good for united as they free up a huge slice of the wage budget. And seeing as he's going to be returning... I don't like it but as soon as it's done, ill get behind him. He has a point to prove I guess and an added motivation of being back in blue... Could be a masterstroke
He played 29 games and scored 8 goals and had 10 assists.
Not a bad return from a player who is past it
Lets hope moving back to his old club reignites a spark, he looks like he's been going through the motions of late.

When you watch his highlights from last season you'll come to notice very, very quickly that those 'assists' stats are,for the majority, quite simple passes and I would expect a non-league player could pull them off.
Most,if not all,of the hard work is done by the goalscorer.
Though Rooney did produce one moment of absolute class last season and that was his epic freekick away to Stoke.

Should be but we were just sh/t creatively,so sh/t that Rooney stats look decent.
Unfortunately this is what Everton fans will now cling onto in convincing themselves that they're getting a decent player.

Well if he managed it for United while unfit then Ron will beast him and have him fit as a fiddle.
Feel Rooney's past the stage of being 'fit as a fiddle'.We should know as we've been hoping for such for the past 2 and a half years.
Will Everton fans really accept Rooney again?
