Reason I lost interest in football. Stopped following CL years and years ago and started losing interest in the PL a couple of seasons ago.
Until the money coming into the game stops increasing it will not change. Extra profits won't translate into making a cheaper product so while the demand is there the pricing will become increasingly extortionate and the wages and fees will probably just keep on rising.
This debate has come up at the £10m, £20m, £50m stages & will continue until some bubble eventually bursts .....
I keep hearing it will burst, for last 20 years.
I
The prem club collectively made a profit, there been hardly any clubs going into admin.
The money is obsence, but market forces always dictate, in any industry,
The TV deal will go down in a few years and so will the transfer fees. £50million is the new £30million, but we have to remember as well that these fees aren't always the upfront fee.
I read Morata was £40million up front with installments and add ons bringing it to £70million. But they're always reported as the full price. Also reported in Euros to make them look higher too.
There is a premium for English clubs because that's where the money is. Clubs know they can charge them more. The only deal out of them that makes sense is the one for Neymar though - he is one of the best players in the world and bonafide stars. They'll make millions back in mercandise, overseas sales, sponsorship from having him as their player.
Best
The oversea tv will only go up.
Domestic, I agree, probably can't go any higher
Yes LIW I don't understand how it is continuing to make profits. There must be a lot of people making lots of money on the back of mortgaged products around the world. ie SCOOM run on a loss/profit & the housing crash years ago. It all cannot go on will be found out sometime. Where is the money comming from, it cannot not be real liquid funds, it is not possible.
People say promotion to Prem is worth 200 mill, but that gets eaten up straight away by huge cost of players.
Just look at how much your cable tv costs per month and the dross programmes you get, its all going into insane deals like the Prem tv rights.
Top cat
Because clubs are making that much money off tv.
You'll be surprised but every player Isn't on 100k a week
Don't believe the paper hype
It will burst, sky and bt have not hit the targets that had hoped to in terms of subscriptions meaning there will be less money to bid for football next time round.
This means I certainly cannot see it rising next time.

There's nothing wrong with Love Island or Big Bro ............
LIW, I know it is only the big stars who get stupid wages, but you got to remember £20k a week is £1m a year, even if before tax. For running around & cheating & diving is vile, to me anyway.

VOF oh please don't get LIW all excited at this time in the morning, he will explode when we beat BM later.
Fans are losing interest, whether it's too much football on TV or folk are just simply getting bored of the PL & the Champions League.
Next time you pop in your local when a CL or PL is on, just have a look around the pub & see whose actually watching it.
It will burst, sky and bt have not hit the targets that had hoped to in terms of subscriptions meaning there will be less money to bid for football next time roun

What happens when apple, Facebook, Netflix, twitter, who are sat on huge cash piles, pile in.
Said this for years, football doesn't need sky half as much as sky needs football.
Sky loses football, and its subscriptions would drop off a cliff
CAytonBay, yup I agree. When there was just 1 game on , on a Sunday 3/4 years ago, My local was rammed, it was a great day. The last few seasons, there are sometimes 3 games on & there are only 20 / 30 people in there. It is a sad sight.
Cayton, well said.
Top Cat, I remember the same, pubs would be busy for the one match on a Sunday.
Jonty, yeah I think so too but also think there is more to it. I believe the culture of the game has allowed to become too petulant & refs not allowed to be to strict on diving & cheating etc. It is now leaking into the amature games also kids copy the stars etc.... People are getting fed up. Football needs Rugby style reffing IMO.
Oh I don't know I am not that clever but something needs to be done.
The football league isnt far behind though. Parachute payments are impoxulating the lower leagues with high transfer fees and huge wages.
The championship is littered with players on wages similar to many prem, in some cases more ie half of Villas squad.
Sky are losing money hand over fist thanks to streaming, so they are under pressure. Football as mentioned was their cash cow, but more and more ppl are streaming games these days.
I agree on the petulance. Pet peeve is throw ins when everyone puts their hand up trying to claim it for their team.
Refs need more credibility and support. Parents need to install better values.
Was at tennis tournament the other day. 9/10 year old kids playing, calling their own lines, very few disputes, call the ref if needed. Parents respectfully supporting, no shouting etc.
Then amateur football started on pitches behind, effing and blinding for 90 minutes. At half time, with all the wives., girlfriends and kids there was just a constant stream of the f word in the team talks. Its really up to the parents to set the example.
Mike
Sky announce a rise in revenue so not sure where your getting that from.
Think we're saying a massive drive against illegal streaming and people are in for a shock.
I've just moved away from streaming back to sky for £20 a month for sports and movies
And the difference in quality is miles better and well worth it
Pet peeve is throw ins when everyone puts their hand up trying to claim it for their team.
This too winds me up no end, what is it all about.
Tennis is a more respectful game.
The throw ins take me back to Primary School I fecking hate it, I also thing foul throws should result in a free kick 5 yards infield from where the throw was taken.
I hate it too
Should be booked if Blantant
Sky have just reshuffled their Channels and have a dedicated Premier league channel. I wish they would have a dedicated Championship Channel in the same way.
