BBC's take on Spurs in the transfer market

Isn't Kane the only youth academy player in your first eleven?

You're the same as the other top sides but with a smaller budget.

Buying players is still buying players.

You could argue Danny Rose (we bought him as a youth player) and we have 3 or 4 that appear in the matchday squad.

I think the difference is that if we keep just buying players then there are fewer chances for the youth players to come into the team

There's not really any getting round it, they need to bring in a couple of quality additions to supplement the squad.

The bit about bonuses is fair enough but some might prefer to have the cash guarantee.

Most importantly though they can't lose any other first team players.

Agree with that.

I love seeing Rashford in our side, you get a different feeling seeing an academy player hit the winner to someone you've signed.

Totally agree. I know it's a risk to rely on the youth but ultimately I think it's the long term plan at Spurs.

Sure we'll need to bring in the odd player to replace an established face, but I'd say the days of multiple marquee signings are behind Spurs.

Spurs have taken in 75m this summer from transfers, so they clearly have money to spend.

posted on 20/7/17

I think there will be one or two signings this window but we aren't going to spend a shed load of cash. I'd rather see it spent on wages/bonuses and against the stadium cost

Theres a few fellas commenting on the thread below who could do with reading this and taking a reality check. If they want to follow a team that throw money around like confetti there are clubs available. Its amazing how quickly some people get dissatisfied with their lot, we would of killed to be in our current situation back in the 90's.

Yeah I think a lot of it comes from envy at other clubs and a worry that we'll drop out of contention.

Spending money isn't a guarantee of success and I for one get much more enjoyment watching this Spurs team than any other in my lifetime - a large part of that is the team spirit and enthusiasm of a squad who believe in the club and its future

either a lot of spurs fans are jonny come latelys, or they have very very short memories indeed.

then you have fans like don, who have been supporting spurs for absolutely ages, and still don't understand anything about spurs.

Finance for the stadium sorted

Paid for it already?

Paid for it already?

No, but the finance is sorted and was announced several weeks ago

I think when people say the stadium funding is 'sorted', it's a bit disingenuous.

We have a provision in place to fund the remainder of the project, but that's still debt that will sit on the balance sheet. Ultimately, if we can make a profit on player transfers and offset the liability, I suspect we will do that.

Personally I have no problem with this whatsoever. We've managed to build a superb team with a net spend of zero, plus massive Capex spend on the stadium and training ground. I'm not sure how anyone can complain about this. As far as I'm concerned, it's a miracle.

Class of 92

Only Kane is one of your top players that's a youth team product, and the class of 92 actually won things rather than just put the pressure on.

Only Barca have managed to recreate our 90's success of bringing through academy products.

Rashford got chucked in because of injures or he would still not of been heard of and Lingard is gash
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Kane was only chucked in because you spunked your load on Soldado and he was gash. What kind of argument is that

And Lingard has won more trophies than your whole squad

Nobody on here is saying that our youth setup is as good as the precious class of 92. The point is more about putting focus on the youth team as a source of new players.

And whilst the current Spurs first Xl only features Kane, we've seen Mason, CCV, Onomah, Edwards, Winks, Carroll, Walker-Peters etc. all in and around the first team in recent seasons - that's a step in the right direction for modern football
