I’ve been impressed by how well drilled he’s got Chelsea defensively, I always thought that was a bit of an achilles heel for him in previous jobs.

At Dortmund that just seems to be a curse that comes with the job.

I remember when some United fans used to say Zlatan was just a poor man's Berbatov.

once again in a big european match, the aging midfield of kroos-casemiro-modric gets exposed

cant press, or except from modders , run....
too easy to for chelsea to press the fack out of them too

like in the last 20 mins against PSG...we looked a different team when camavinga and valverde were in midfield alongside modric...energy, legs !

2 seasons ago when City KOed us, that midfield trio looked aged !

Did you see Kroos's reaction when he was subbed

I know senior players hold a fair but of power at Madrid...look at how long Marcelo was still being picked as a starter for Madrid , years after his legs went, before he was finally benched.....time came a while back to break up the midfield trio

imo...Kroos and Casemiro are a liability in matches like last night now

Ancelotti needs to play the youngsters alongside modric against probably City...or we'll get battered bad

Kroos especially looks done at this level. Madrid have really ridden their luck across the last two ties.

I agree, Daz. Barring one or two spells of peak from, Kroos has been playing like an old man since he was like 27.

On making the semis, Madrid were on a stinking run of form when they went to Paris, but have picked up a lot since then.

You speak of riding our luck, but I'd also say we made our experience count and for all the credit people might want to give Tuchel, I actually think Carlo outfoxed him over two legs.

We were never going to match Chelsea physically, and it would've been suicidal to try to go toe to toe with them for 90 minutes in either leg.

Last night they had no choice but to take risks in attack, while we could play on the back foot and seek to exploit any mistakes. And playing like that we could easily have gotten on the scoreboard before Chelsea had scored their third, and conversely no-one's talking about Chelsea's luck in both of their first two goals.

By the end of the game we were the pressing in the right places and forcing tired minds and legs into making mistakes. Tuchel was slow to react, a sign that for all his chalkboard theory, in strategic terms he hadn't at any point anticipated having to defend a lead or foreseen during the game that Madrid would be fresher in the final stretch and that he was going to need fresh legs.

Madrid were actually in control of the tie, which except for a spell in the second half last night, Chelsea spent the better part of two matches chasing. And when decisions needed making to turn things back in our favour, Carlo was much quicker to act because he'd predicted anticipated the scenario that actually unfurled much more carefully than Tuchel.

Whilst that’s true, I think when a team misses as many chances as Chelsea did it is still riding your luck because missing chances is out of your control. Madrid were clever and clinical, their experience showed in those moments, credit where it’s due. But Madrid aren’t the only team that get dominated and still end up taking something off Chelsea, they lack the quality in attack to put teams away.

Tuchel's subs were late and made the team worse. Chelsea did suffer from Potter-syndrome though.

He should have left Werner on.

No, hence why they played well.
