I didn’t mind the new CL format when it was first announced - but just realising CL is in a Thursday night regularly has filled me with a furious rage.

Actually grew to like the new format when football manager introduced it to the game.

Original was better though. And less games.

As I say, original was better. Hopefully with players talking about suing it'll revert back at some point.

Personally found the group stages to be quite boring. This new format is definitely sounds more exciting, but we'll have to wait and see how it pans out

The funny thing is they extended his deal in the summer until 2027, so he must be getting a massive compensation package

Let's talk about Madrid

Lacklustre showing once again, but quietly and underwhelmingly gone 32 games unbeaten now, and have only lost twice (to Atleti) in their last 65.

The dreariest hard-to-beat teams always used to have steely defences, but Madrid don't even have that.

It's virtually impossible to be crap and post those numbers.

Is it time to move on from Carlo next year?

how Madrid won 3-1 last night I'll never know
awful performance for the most part
no control in midfield, porous defence

I'd be very surprised if Madrid hadn't already done a fair amount of succession planning, but I don't think there's anyone out there other than Alonso who's tempting enough for them to hit the eject button on Ancelotti unless everything turns to sheet results-wise.

And even if they have managed or do manage to get Alonso to pick them amongst all his potential suitors, they'll probably want to wait and see how Leverkusen get on this season.

In fairness to Carlo though, some of his past teams have also been known to play brilliant and pretty devastating attacking football. If this one's so lacklustre, it might be because he's missing the right piece or two in the middle of the park for everything to click.
