I don't actually think we're that far off where we were.
We all knew it would be tricky to adjust in attack to the arrival of Mbappé, but it's being hugely overstated just because it's him. Last season we had Joselu for that position, ffs.
The team's still creating more than enough chances to win games, so it really isn't the huge issue that's being made out.
Neither is the departure of Toni Kroos as significant as it's being made out.
These are just the names the broader audiences are familiar with, so that's who they try to pin the problems to.
Granted we could do with someone more assured than merely physical in the middle of the park (and ideally not 87 years old), but it's hardly as if we won the CL last year on the back of dominating our opponents.
What's hurting us most is issues and injuries in defence, imo. We could do much worse than bring Miguel Gutiérrez back from Girona for the left back, even if Alaba does eventually come back and get back to form.
We definitely need one if not two right backs, and maybe now people will begin to realise what a luxury it was to be able to fall back on Nacho in the centre or even as an emergency FB.
Just catching up on two weeks of Brasileirão fixtures, and Botafogo have opened up a 6 point gap over Palmeiras and 7 over Fortaleza, with just 6 games to play.
In the previous update, the top two were separated by a single point, but while Botafogo notched two wins -away to RedBull Bragantino and home vs Vasco- Palmeiras only managed a home draw with Fortaleza and then lost away to Corinthians.
Speaking of Corinthians, having gone out in both the Copa Sudamericana and Copa do Brasil semis, they seem to have fully focussed on the league, with three straight wins lifting them 4 points clear of the relegation zone.
Good news for fans of footballing traditional, not so good for fans of energy drinks, as RedBull's miserable streak stretched to 8 without a win and just one victory in their last 15 Brasileirão fixtures.
This has left one of last year's title contenders flirting with relegation. They currently sit just one point outside the drop zone, on 35 points, only one ahead of 17th-placed Ath. Paranaense, who are yet to play.
Elsewhere, Santos are just 1 point away from confirming their return to Serie A. They could seal promotion as early as next weekend, when they visit mid-table Coritiba.
Allan and Telles both play for Botafogo, if you're at all curious.
Allan seems to be a bit of a bit part player tho

The only Carlo quote in the whole article is ‘My players aren’t lazy but we are struggling to work effectively together.'
The rest is just yarns spun by bullsheet sources for braindead readers.
The whole article (including the bit about signings) is basically making up what they think would have made a good story if Carlo had actually said anything of the sort.
