Mbappé occasionally has these really off days in big games, but it's a mistake to always look to the same one or two players to decide a game. Creates unnecessary pressure and makes the opposition's job a lot easier. Is Ancelotti just not sold on Endrick? Mbappé-Endrick-Brahim would've been a much more natural front line last night.

On Asencio, good to see the kid making such a good start, but he was very indecisive for Liverpool's opener. His challenge on Mac Allister should've been much firmer. Looked like he was afraid of overcommitting. The sort of situation he ought to be able to deal with much better with more experience at this level.

We have serious work to do in the fullback positions. The situation at right back is a bad joke. As for LB, it looks like García just doesn't cut it, and we need to stop pretending Mendy can still play at left back at this level and ship him out. He's a shadow of the player he was. Given all the injury trouble he's had for so long now and how off the pace he looked when available last season too, bringing Miguel Gutiérrez back should've been a no-brainer. I think we could still bring him back in January for €8M.



Oh well. Next game away to Atalanta looks like it could be another rough night. Lose again and we'll almost certainly need to win our last two. And we really couldn't blame anyone but ourselves if we failed to beat RB Salzburg at home and Brest away.
