Espanyol creating some good chances on the break. Would go level on points with Barça at the top if they find a winner.

Sevilla looking just as likely to score though

Could be they have actually organised a jail break and dressed the prisoners up as players

The real players are lying chloroformed in a laundry room somewhere

Is there a reason Vasquez is starting again for Madrid?

Yeah doesn’t look very good to me. Did ok as a squad player under Zidane but just doesn’t possess the quality that Asensio and Isco do.

Asensio has good individual technique (though not really a great dribbler), but he only really seems effective when opponents are stretched. He tends to largely disappear from games when opponents dig in, as if he really didn't know what to do or where to be to make himself available when the pitch is compressed.

Isco's the opposite to an extent, in that he makes himself available enough, but often fails to release the ball in time or takes players on without any clear purpose other than hoping an opportunity will open up if he beats his man.

Both are good players, each with their own characteristics, but by no means rounded enough to be as good as people make out. And that's just from an attacking perspective.

I wonder how much of that could be put down to a lack of coaching from Zidane. Watching Madrid play he set the team up well to give the attackers the freedom to express themselves but I’m not sure there was a great deal of attacking instruction on the coaching side, especially in comparison with a lot of other coaches.

I really don't know, but he didn't really need to that much anyway, given that he inherited a settled forward line where each player knew more or less what was required of him.

Ronaldo's departure drastically changed all that, and was always going to require a lot of hard work in that area.

We're fortunate that Benzema's currently stepped up to take some of the responsibility in that area, but he's often having to create goals all by himself.

Solari's been quite fortunate with his opening run of fixtures, but there's still a huge amount of work to be done for us to be able to compete with the stronger sides.

I do love isco, but I feel he has a habit of slowing an attack down waaaaay too often.

That’s what I mean, though. Zidane was just giving them a platform rather than instruction. For players like Bale, Ronaldo and Benzema it’s not much of an issue. For developing players like Asensio and Isco I think the lack of coaching doesn’t help with their development as footballers.

It’s quite funny listening to some fellow United fans talking about the prospect of Zidane. They actually think Martial and Pogba will thrive under him just because he’s a French legend. These are two players more than any that need coaching in attacking phases rather than just freedom to do so as they are fundamentally flawed footballers, despite their huge talents.

Also, what happened to Edin?
