No problem giving him a chance gem and would be delighted if he becomes a big part of the squad as that would mean he is doing things right.

But do you think he is going to be ahead of Bonatini and a new striker, or ahead of Cav, Jota, Costa and Eno because I don't.

Nobody's writing him off Gem lad, just that he needs games and he ain't gonna get that at Wolves at the minute, short term loan would be the ideal scenario

I think there's a good player in 'Z'

Agree with you gem, I was impressed with Zyro last year despite him largely playing out of position and I can see him, Costa and Jota being our main men playing either side of the central striker given time, and he could prove to be just as good as those two

Wonder if DJ knows we still have Cavaleiro on the books <hmm>

Are many people writing zyro off gem? I'd like him to get a few games under his belt to get truly match fit and i do worry that he's had a lot of time out with several injuries already in his short career, but from the games i saw him play when he first joined us he is a talent. Strong, direct, with a knack for goal and good skill on the ball. It was a lovely run and pass to set up wilson last night and if that had been cav or jota i am sure we'd have been hearing a lot more praise.

If he does get back fit i could see him fitting in to this team, as cover for bonatino or in place of eno or cav maybe. Admittedly in very limited game time but his assists and goals record is as good or better than both those players.

Wouldn't mind seeing him lead the line as it goes but he isn't close yet I don't think and I wouldn't be surprised to see him go out on loan til Xmas as will a couple of others I suspect such as Deslandes

Reckon if Zyro was fully fit and on form he would be ahead of both Bonatini and Eno

Good tweet by Deslandes today - hard work beats talent if talent doesn't work hard

posted on 25/8/17

Presumably due to us beating a more talented side in Southampton, only problem is they are in the prem and we are not.

Talk of hard work gets way way too much air time as it goes without saying and a majority of professional footballers work hard hence they have made it but yet they still all end up playing at different levels and other factors determine that, talent being one of the biggest.

It feels fantastic to be able to discuss the merits of numerous players and where they can fit into our team now, a great problem to have, we finally have strength in depth in most positions.

i should give bonatini more chance before judging him. he's come to a unique football, not up to full fithess and still got 2 goals

I don't see Zyro and Bonatini competing for the same position. If we are sticking to 343 then I think Costa, Jota, Enobakhare and Zyro give us 4 competing for the two wider front roles and as things stand Bonatini, Dicko and maybe Wilson for the central role. Bonatini would be my first choice for the central position and he has been quite impressive without yet being fully up to speed but I would be disappointed if we didn't bring someone in next week to give more competition for that position. Less than a week to go now before the transfer window closes.

Would be good to see Wilson tried again.

Ca va lei ro........... Cavaleiro

Direct hand in three goals so far this season and a screamer against Leicester, surprised you keep forgetting him.

cavaleiro will be in the mix for a place in the front three and as I haven't seen him play yet this season I don't know first hand how he's doing. I did see that most reviews of the saints game from fans who went and from the media felt he was wasteful and largely out of the game apart from the pretty important contribution of setting up the first goal.

I can only fairly comment on what I have seen, live in games. and on that basis I think zyro is at least the equal of cav. clearly cavaleiro is a flashier player but pound for pound and if both fully fit, I feel that zyro will be more effective across a long championship season.

as with discussions on other places tho, this isn't either/or...if nuno chooses to keep zyro in the squad then both players will be important to us and play a part at different times. my preference right now tho would be zyro bonatini costa across the front.

Cav got another solid seven against saints from the reports I read and spoke to several family/friends at the game and they all rated him and thought he was a threat.

Ronan got the most praise though, they laugh 'who is the little kid who came on second half'.

Nail on head. Cavaleiro has come with a reputation, but the reality is, he has to live up to that reputation - i.e. show it on the pitch.

I agree that he has had good spells in games this season, but many fans will remember the games of last year when his performances maybe weren't what they could and should have been.

One swallow doesn't make a Summer, and we all hope his re-found form this season (in the earlier games anyway), is an indication that he is prepared to knuckle down and repay the faith of those that brought him here. He'll be on good money, he needs to start earning it.
