Fergie - Rooney is white Pele!!

posted on 14/9/11

Just to clarify these comments, the full context can be seen below:

Sir Alex was asked a lot about Wayne Rooney by journalists earlier after Benfica boss Jorge Jesus praised the striker in his pre-match press conference and likened the United striker to a foreign superstar. "Rooney is the best British player but doesn't seem like a British player," Jesus said. "He's like an Argentinian or Brazilian. He can decide the match in the final third and so we have to pay special attention to him."

Then replied

The boss wasn't so sure about Jesus' comments, but he was in total agreement when it came to discussing the striker's talents. "I think Wayne is a typical British player," he said. "But there have been British players who have great qualities that makes them great players. Players like Gascoigne, George Best, Bobby Charlton and Denis Law. The similarities are that the boy has great courage. He wants to play all the time. He has incredible stamina. These are added extras to the talent he has." When pushed on the similarities with Pele, Sir Alex added: "Pele was a very aggressive attacker as well who could look after himself. So can Rooney. There are similarities that way in strength and speed, determination. But he is white, completely white!"

These Scousers are seriously dim.

Missin myth,

Where on earth does the Ferguson quote say Rooney is better than Pele? Can you not read?

All it says is Rooney has similar qualities, specificially aggressiveness, speed and determination.

Similar. Not better. A Conference South player can have these similar qualities, does not mean I am saying a Conference South player is better than Pele was.

People seem to have a lack of understanding of how a simple thing like a press conference works, and many posters are making themselves look like idiots with their misinterpretation of what is said.
Shame the News of the World no longer exists, otherwise I would recommend you for a sports journalist position!!

Is sport not a part of education?

I see nothing written in this article to suggest that there is anything wrong with education in "scouseland".

Please explain what is wrong with the education system, im interested to know how you came to this conclusion.

there is a hell of a lot wrong with the education system, leading to kids leaving school unable to read and write, and thinking txt-spak spellings are the correct spelling (to the degree of using it on application forms!).... however, that is nationwide, not just on merseyside.

You could argue that sport is part of education. However, we are talking about academic work here (English in particular). I've already explained why the scousers on this thread have poor comprehension skills and struggle with understanding basic English language. Words used in context, phrases or items compared also cause confusion.

That's clearly demonstrated by your fellow scousers on this thread.

Im not a Scouser and I was educated in Cheshire.

You are just making sweeping generalistions based on a couple of anonymous posts on an internet forum.

How many posters on this thread do you think were educated in "scouseland"?(a term you must have learnt at school I assume) you obviously know how many of them were educated here to justify your comments.

Sid,

It's banter mate. Nothing personal. You have to admit though, your supporters on this thread are pretty thick.

BTW, I made scouseland on my own. Wasn't taught that in school.

Fair enough, I assume you just judge all scousers against Rooney so no wonder you think they are all thick

i dont care who you support, you have got to hand it to SAF.
how many managers would even say that, never mind get away with it!

that's a pretty gross generalisation. I'm sure there are sharp and dumb people in both cities.

Rooney is good, but to say he's good as Pele? Only th real Ronaldo can be compared to Pele.

I rate Silva a better footballer. He's the best in the league. Had Fabregas stayed at Arsenal this season, he would've had competition for best player in league.

Rooney will have a dip in form in the Euro's just like world cup.

Well obviously there are

But, in my 15 years working with both, Scousers are far more quick witted that mancs. By the time a manc gets onto a joke, the Scousers have moved onto the next one! I also find I have to explain jobs to mancs (and brummies) more than once.

As you are so well educated on basic English, you would thing you would know simple rules such as 'Pele', being a person's name should start with a capital letter. The same can also be said for Scousers and Scouseland (made up as it is - is still a place name).

By the way, this has given us all license to call him Pooney from now on.

I agree totally with the reply regards 'text speak'. In management I have had job applications lately written that way, and I use the term 'written' loosely (needless to say they all end up in "file 13" ).
I have also had applications from people all over the country, many of whom couldn't spell or string two cohesive words of English together. So sub standard education appears to be widespread.
Oh, and just out of interest: I went to Grammar School, I also went to Uni in Oxford and read for a Bsc in Computer Science...and I'm a Liverpool fan. So I guess by the sweeping generalisations here I am a total illiterate!

gerrard said joe cole was BETTER than messi, not just can do anything he does.

what a daft statement that was.

Is he not just stating a fact?
Don't think there's anything subliminal in there, you conspiracy nut.

Mancs and their hypocrisy again.
When Gerrard made jCole comment, wasn't he replying to a journalists?
Didn't he base his comment on thing JCole did in training?
I guess mancs education was poor then

For the record, there is nothing wrong with my comprehension of the article, context or quotes.... It's still hilarious though
