I don't think we have a world class defence
But it's certainly good enough to challenge for the league

Don't you want us to be battling for top four?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
No I want us battling to win the title, not to potentially scrape third or 4th, maybeiss out again...
We aren't good enough to make a title challenge, and with the money spent, the amount of weaknesses throughout our team is ridiculous.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Of course we're good enough to make a title challenge
No team in this league is perfect. We're no more imperfect than anyone else.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
This.
If we don't see a title challenge this season, I'll be very disappointed and would judge Mou and his team to have failed the term considering the playing resources at their disposal.
Best keeper, decent set of cb's for the most part, decent fb, sheite left backs or players out of position. Pretty confident in our defence, though we won't be next level without a vvd sort to provide foil for bailey and a left back who can actually attack.

We're going to get relegated, arent we Ron.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
No, we will finish 3rd at best, 6th at worst
It's perfectly acceptable to think that we can win the league with an imperfect side (i.e. A lack of top left back - though Shaw may still surprise us all - and a player who can cross well) but maybe just maybe with these flaws we can still win the league.
Fixing these flaws are what we need to challenge for the CL. Not the league.

Nope. We won't win the league. Ill bump this thread to remind you, when we finish at least 10 points behind the winners.
No quality wingers, no quality attacking fullbacks, no established quality centre back... and our team is built around a player who goes missing for long periods in matches.

Could have a decent left back who can cross, tick some of what you mentioned off in one swoop. That player ain't Shaw though. Was surprised Jose wasn't in the market for someone during summer- imagine we'd got rose, or better mendy.

Compare our attack to Chelsea's. Compare our midfield or defence to Liverpool's or City's.
Which teams are you so sure are at least ten points better than us?

And yet we find ourselves top of the table with the most goals scored and 3 winnable games coming up.
Of course we can win the league. Yes, our flaws might see us have a poor record in the big games but history has shown that the big games don't necessarily need to be won to win a league. Beating the mid to small sides regularly is what Jose is good at once he gets his feet under the table.
Robb
It's clear that only perfect teams like the Leicester of 2015/16 and the United sides of 2010/11 and 2012/13 win the league.
We are top after 4 games.
You're right, definitely win the league

No, but it's a good start. Jose's title winning sides often get off to good starts.
You've mentioned what we lack. Here's what we do have.
The best gk in the league
A defence which can be measured against any other defence in the league
A midfield as good as any other in the league.
A striker in Lukaku at his peak and who gets goals in the type of games we drew regularly last season
Young and hungry players like Rashford and Martial
An assist king like Micky who isn't quite playing well but is getting assists. What if he starts playing well?
Same with Pogba.
There's no reason to doubt why we shouldn't challenge for the title. We have as a squad strong throughout without being exceptional, but still a very good squad, and a manager who is used to winning. Sure, we could have invested better in places, but compared to domestic opposition we are not worse than any of our rivals.
Being top after 4 games doesn't mean much. We were top after 7 games in the 2015/16 season.
Interestingly LVG had a 100% record of those fixtures equivalent in his 2 seasons in charge while Mourinho has a 33.33% record. These are the sides we struggle under Mourinho as in a couple of middle of the pack teams.

How can you not look at the goals against? That is how it is measured.
Good grief.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I guess Ron doesn't think us having more clean sheets than any other side in the league in 2017 means anything
----------------------------------------------------------------------
As always, stats are subjective. City away is a good example of a defence that got lucky.
We should be beating Everton next weekend. Pundits and fans have been bigging them up because spent a few quid. Fact is they have signed a few decent to good PL players and have lost by far their most important player. They barely hung on vs City with 10 and were easily brushed aside by Chelsea and Spurs. Rooneys honeymoon period looks well over. The guy is past it. Bet he scores against us now
Saints could be tricky if we're not at it.
Should be putting Palace away easily
