Shrewsbury. Once more we played some excellent stuff, scored a good goal and got sucker-punched twice. The last three goals conceded, at Arsenal and tonight, all came from errors on the left of the defence. Mason is not a left back and Toffolo didn't look to be any sort of an improvement. If Fergie can't find an LB I would prefer him to play three at the back and wing-backs. Rant over.

No way was the Arsenal goal an error by Mason.
The ball by Sanchez to Walcott was exceptional FFS.

On the game last night, i agree that we played some great stuff, especially in the first half hour.
After that Shrewsbury grew into the game and showed their quality but a draw would have been a fair outcome.
They will know how lucky they are to come away with the points.
Good performances all round by our lads but i think Marquis needs to sharpen up with his distribution.
Last night and in recent games he has done brilliantly to win the ball and then played an unbelievably bad pass to give the opposition the ball back.

After a couple of our recent defeats there were calls for Fergusons head and his supporters said we should see where we are after ten games.
Well i had a look last night......and we are one point out of the bottom four, nine points from 10 games.

Firstly Shrewsbury are top of the leauge and u beaten for a reason.
We should have had the game stiched up in the first 30mins after that shrews got a grip on the game and looked a good team.
If lawlor had not got inj then perhaps we would have got a point.
Lawlor couple of good saves.
Mason looked class.
Butler Wright ok.
26 very good
Houghton poor not in game.
Shrews number 20 in a similar role was outstanding.
Rowe good game.
Kongolo some really good things but often completely out of touch.
May not good.
Marquis very very poor.
Blair MOM
whiteman out of sorts.
Just wonder.
We have scored 3 away from home on 3 occasions
The way we set up at home perhaps does not help.our forwards.
Highlighted by a fantastic ball into 6 yrd box by 26 both are forwards were on hand and neither got close to ths ball.

Hound the ball might have been exceptional but he was day dreaming and let Walcott sneak in behind him! Even talk sport commentatated, "and Walcott has given Mason the slip"

As last night he was targeted again by another side. Not his fault he isn't a left back but teams can see our left side is weak. Blair has the pace to get back in Mason doesn't.

The game should have been wrapped up inside the 30 minute mark. Rowe fluffed yards out and again had a great chance straight at the keeper. May and or Marquis both didn't do enough for me to get on the end of a fantastic cross from Copps.

We don't seem to like to shoot from the outside the box of late and the only time we did we scored and a good finish it was too!

2nd half we were hardly existent. May had a great shot well saved and apart from that the game fizzled out.

Fergie may well only have 2 wins to his name but everyone who's seen us this season knows 3 or 4 more times we could have added more points to our total.

The team is playing some good football we just aren't coming away with our rewards. We were so slack after we conceded last night and again there winning goal no one was prepared to tackle the lad who ran across the box.

We are desperately missing a Wellens/Stock type player. Our central midfield is too lightweight and non seem to put a firm tackle in.

The game was a better performance than against Scunny and replicated the Plymouth one. However Shrewsbury are top for a reason but certainly are not the best side we have played this season and we let them off the hook big style!

Azza thats were mason should play.
I have been saying that for yonks.
One more thing.
The ref last night was fantastic

posted on 27/9/17

As good as Rowe was last night going forward he was shocking in his defensive duties, leaving mason to contend with 2 on 1 situations quite a few times.
If he has been told to forget his defensive duties then fair enough on him but bad management from a team perspective.
If not, then it is just bad play by him.
Unfair to blame Mason.
Rowe also forgot to go with their player who equalised.

Azza, yes, Walcott did give Mason the slip but the ball from Sanchez was the reason why.

If defenders were never beaten by attackers there would be a lot of boring 0-0 matches to watch.

You sometimes just have to say that the attackers did well.

The Plymouth fans will be saying that all three of our goals should have been prevented and were down to bad defending.

Of course we all thought they were great goals.

Azza is right . Teams are exploiting the gap between Mason and the CB pair. I like Mason as a right sided defender or in midfield. He deserves a place but not at LB. However Toffolo didn't look comfortable either defending or pushing forward. Marquis is a warrior and will score goals when he gets chances, but his passing is truly awful. May on the other hand was brilliant last night, buzzed around like an angry wasp and got quite a number of shots off.

Just goes to show you May did have a couple of decent pings but the rest of the time for me for his runs were aimless and was easily contained.
Although he was getting no support from a very poor marquis.

Mason excites more comment than any other in the team and I do not feel as qualified as most to argue strongly against him, but in the run-in last season I did not find him entirely convincing when playing midfield on the right either.
Unlike Hound, I do sympathise with Ferguson however as he must have thought he'd plugged the left back spot with Andrew. What do we think is the solution? Can Garrett or one of the Development squad players be tried? Will the problem ease when Baudry and McCullough are fit again?
As for Ferguson himself, I retain my faith. His predecessor inherited a decent team and left behind a mediocre collection of journeymen who rarely gave us joy and who he never really seemed able to manage anyway. Ferguson is open, not secretive but confident and his players seem to really respect him. To hint that this run of results puts him on a par with Dickov ignores his obvious ability. If Dickov were judged to be able he would surely have found reeployment.

Df 10/1 for Birmingham
don mason is suberb infront of bak 4.
2 footed and looks for the ball constantly and plays positive passes

When Ferguson arrived I wasn't convinced, but I like the football his teams play, win, lose or draw. I hope he stays.

posted on 27/9/17

I too hope he stays. He has a long term project he spoke about at meet the owners and the owners too have bought into it. I've a feeling we could be buying a couple of additions come January but the Andrew injury has some what contributed to defensive frailities both aerially and on the deck.

I hope we start winning and he stays

posted on 28/9/17

i also hope that ferguson stays. i think its unlikely that he will go as birmingham seem confident that they will get Karanka -( top class manager imo)

as for saturday i'll go -

1-1 draw - may to score - 21000 crowd

I'll say draw 1:1 too, Copps or Butler if he doesn't start and 20,000.

First of all I'd liked to agree with earlier comments that Marquis was really poor against Shrewsbury. His first touch has never been great, but on the occasions he immediately got control of a long ball, he passed to Shrewsbury!
On Saturday I'll bravely go for 2-2 with Copps scoring (or Rowe if Copps does not start). Crowd 20811

I will be interested in a match report. Loads of shots more than Bradford, both off and on target yet they scored twice. It looks like being one of "those" seasons.
