My Bradford mates said we did well second half.
Marquis dive was embarrassing.
They said worse ref seen for a long time.

Since Andrew got injured we've gone downhill. We have dominated several games like this one in terms of shots, but we are not effective in the execution. The other stat which may seem encouraging at first sight is the small number of fouls we commit compared with opponents. However perhaps it indicates a failure to put in enough tackles, some of which may have had fatal results.

Defensive weaknesses must be remedied or we are doomed.

I'll do the DPL stats when I get home. Not too many points scored in the last two games. I think we may well turn generally pessimistic for the next League game whoever it may be!

Another game we have dominated and some how come away without a point. So disappointing. We can't defend and can't score it's as though there's this hold over us! He chopped and changed the side a little today but still the same old lapse in concentration does us. There keepers had a couple of saves and even some of there fans have mentioned in the Facebook banter group they were lucky!

My comments that follow are based on what I see on iFollow, not what you would see at a game on the complete picture.
After 10 minutes I thought to would be just the same, lots of pressure but not many clear-cut chances, and was not surprised when Bradford scored.
Last season we scored some from mid-field players, but this season they seem reluctant to have a go. Rowe got one and Whiteman was nearest on Saturday with his free kick.
I'm not surprised there was no meaningful offer for Marquis during the summer as he has to prove himself at a level above League Two. So far he has not, his first touch is often bad, and when he gets control his passing is often atrocious. Most shots are scuffed.
I like May's energy, but where is it getting us? When he gets the really good through ball, his pace is good and could result in something. But otherwise his control seems to take us backwards.
I know if you have possession the other side can't score, but possession without scoring means nothing.
To me, Houghton has been a little disappointing and needs to get to where he was last season.
Someone posted that because of our lack of fouls we were not aggressive enough. Well, I certainly like Kongolo as he usually goes back and tackles when he has lost the ball.
After a strong start it is amazing what an injury to Danny Andrew did!
I'm not totally depressed yet, but it is getting harder to get up early (remember I'm a retired 72) to watch the game live, but being a Yorkshireman, I've paid the fee so I'll do it!
Best wishes to all you crazy fans, and it will always be RTID.
PS: The Timbers also lost on Saturday where a win would have confirmed a play-off spot for them - it is hard to take two losses in one day.
Luckily our lovely ladies at the Thorns won 3-1 (in front of a crowd of 21,000) and have finished second in the league. They play Orlando in the semi-final play-off next Saturday.

Thanks Mickey, your perspective is always welcome. Watching on TV gives probably a better view of the action, but not of the work done off the ball.

The decline may not be wholly attributable to Andrew's injury, but it has been significant. I'm pinning hope on the return of McCullough and Baudry.

I don't think there's enough interest to have a DPL on the cup game. If we progress to the final stages it might be worth it though.

Here are the results from last week. Some forecasters revised their expectations wisely after Shrewsbury and Small Azza realistically forecasted both recent results. Azza has been the recent champion points-scorer and has more than doubled his overall total over these 3 matches and Uthred stays out in front.

A lot of tired legs out there tonight.
Fielding certainly caught the eye of the young lads but they all did well.
Great save from marosi.
Ran their socks off against a Sunderland side that pushed the ball around well.
Toffolo hmmmm

I hope there will be extended highlights do we can see what the young lads did. It seems we are through to the knock-out round.
From the Free Press commentary it seems Williams blazed over from a good chance as he did against Scunthorpe. Not exactly cementing himself for a start on Saturday.

Micky: I know it's off-topic, but how do you react to the latest episode of what we here see as avoidable mass-murder? Some of us can understand that in a country driven by the pioneering spirit of its settlers that self-reliance is preferred over “socialism”, but this primitive faith in the right to own and use guns seems almost insane in the modern world. Incidentally something else in the news here which you probably will not have heard is that Rodney Bickerstaffe who led one of the largest trade unions here (Unison) died this week and as he was born in 1945 it occurred to me that he might have been a contemporary of yours at DGS.)

posted on 5/10/17

Donaldo, I had not heard that Rodney Bickerstaffe had died. He was in my form at Doncaster Grammar School (and I think at Beechfield Junior as well, but he may have been from Balby). I lost touch after i left DGS, but I had partially followed his union career.

As far as the non-footie topic you raised, Pauline and I have lived in the USA for 41 years but still cannot understand the gun culture, and would love the 2nd Amendment to be repealed, but that will never happen. With so many guns out there, many in the hands of "bad" people, I can understand some people feel a "need to defend themselves and family", but that does not need automatic weapons with 100-round magazines.
While it is impossible to stop a deranged person doing something like Las Vegas, it should be made more difficult. Banning certain types of weapons, accessories and ammunition would help, as would a thorough national background check/license system. All this guy's purchasers are said to be legal, but such multiple purchases should raise red flags with a proper national system.
While mass-murders get the attention, and seem to be getting more frequent, regular shootings, even in a place like Portland, are far too common. During Obama's term in office over 20,000 were shot in his adopted home town of Chicago, and about 4,000 died. Suicide by gun is also far too common, as are accidents where a child shoots another child having found a loaded gun in a home.
Something has to be done to reduce the easy access to guns, but I'm not sure anything will happen as both sides launch from the extreme ends of their thought/policy spectrum.

Back to footie - I wonder whom DF will select for Saturday? Praying for the first home league win.

Interesting comments Mickey. Children shooting each other is as bad a consequence as any and inevitable, but of course we don't hear about that because of the scale. Acid attacks are the latest "vogue" here amongst the mindlessly violent and pretty horrifying

posted on 7/10/17

Donaldo,
When I discuss my feelings about guns with my gun-toting friends (I have a few), they often bring up the knife and acid attacks in Europe trying to claim its an equal issue. There are bad people everywhere who will find a way to do evil, but it is the easy access to guns here that lead to many suicides and killed children - as well as the gang violence in most cities.
By the way, we live on a relatively conservative "Adult Resort Community" (not a retirement home but a place that bans people under 18 from living here and 80% of homes have to have someone over 55) and I think probably 70% of homes have guns...(I know my immediate neighbours do)
Apologies for this non-football talk, but it is interesting to here opinions from supporters of my home town team.
