A lot of nonsense about Mcgreggor starting. He doesn't even start for Celtic in the Champions League fs

That said can't have Bannan and Fletcher on. Bannan put in some good balls at least

As a Utd fan and appreciators of Fletcher in his great years with us, I thought his passing was awful in this game. Overhit at times, pinged it to teierney(?) and he couldn't control it cos of the speed and put you under pressure.

I think you'll miss brown and the other Celtic lad, more composed that two, although every time I've seen brown he's a hair trigger from exploding and getting sent off.

I'd take that. Finishing 2nd would be a massive boost to our future seeding, even if we get papped out in the play offs.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Gladly take that as its the closest we have been in years.

Strachan has turned us around. If only brown and armstrong were fit.

I’d play a half fit brown and Armstrong before Fletcher and Bannan

In fact I’d pop a couple of mannequins in the middle afore they two

I thought we played ok and thoroughly deserved to win the game. We were playing a team ranked 19th in the world and mowing like feck after we beat them

Strachan has had his dodgy moments but he nailed it tonight. Tactics spot on, subs spot on, if not for woodwork and goalie playing like a man possessed we'd have had 3 or 4.

Considering man for man they are superior players any win was a great result.

Bannan and Fletcher might be average but they are experienced at this level. McGinn, McGregor etc are not and this was just far too big a game for rookies. I probably would have started McArthur myself though. Probably with Fletcher. Bannan although capable of the sublime is too inconsistent and gives the ball away too often in dangerous areas. A skinny Charlie Adam without the free kicks.

Ffs-a Scotland win and you want a dig about the fans booing Weiss and have a go at the manager.

Parody.

Jeez just reading this thread. What game were some folk watching? Slovakia are a better team than us by miles. They have players in Serie A, Bundesliga, La Liga and Ligue 1. We have a central midfield from West Brom and Sheffield Wednesday as well as a CB from the 3rd tier of English football.

We put in a ton of work tonight and despite huge amounts of bad luck the players kept at it and got the result.

We hit the bar twice and the keeper made 2 world class saves FFS.

They are a pot 2 team ranked 19th in the world, we are pot 3 and ranked 39.

ANY WIN was a fantastic result. Feck me some people need to lighten up and enjoy themselves.

That's 4 wins out of 5, with a draw agains England (ranked 10) making it 12 points out of the last 15. There aren't many teams in the world on that kind of form.

Yes we can misplace passes and take bad touches. That isn't going to change unless the Brazil U19s find Scottish grannies. The fact is despite our technical deficiencies, we have battled our way right back into this tournament and the players and manager should be applauded for it.

I was against Strachan staying on as much as anyone else but I happily hold up my hands and say he's grown as a manager and a person this campaign. He's lost some of his stubborn edge and is playing stronger lineups and players are looking motivated to play for him. Let's hope we can finish the job on sunday. Slovenia are not on the same level as Slovakia, 10 men or not; we should win, but you never know with Scotland. Either way the last 5 games have been tremendous.

Totally agree and essentially more of the “wee man” syndrome otherwise. 👍

Great result, as DB has said Slovakia on paper are head and shoulders above us by a long while, the result is all that matters

It doesn't matter if you're playing Brazil or San Marino. You need to pass the ball well when you have it and not look totally devoid of ideas with it.

James Morrison needed 183 touches of the ball before he released it. Barry Bannan was very good 2nd half but first half he wasn't in it much. Fletcher is just Fletcher, doesn't offer anything these days and when we had the extra man the fact he kept losing Hamsik was even more worrying as he should have been able to get touch tight.

It's an absolutely fantastic result but we're still allowed to call it like we see it. And I saw a team who didn't play anywhere near as good as we can.

db I am delighted by this result. Absolutely delighted.

However I won't mix up a great result with a poor performance. Let's not forget we were playing against 10 men for the large part of the game.

Against 10 men yet we only snatched victory at the death. Our midfield first half was non-existent. Second half credit to Strachan for changing it.

It was no surprise it was when Fletcher went off that we stepped it up.

Strachan has won me over recently when he started to pick in form players for Scotland, I find it no coincidence that since then we have won 4 and drawn 1 out of 5.

Last night and indeed this squad is picked on stubbornness IMO. Back to picking players like Fletcher, Anya, Martin, Bannan

I'll take the lucky goal for the win as my God do we deserve a bit of luck in Scotland but we need better players and better performances on Sunday or we will end up with glorious failure again.

To his credit I thought Bannan played well last night - surprised me a bit

Were it not for their keeper we'd have been in front earlier and probably would have won it more comfortably.

Was at Hampden last night, great finish.

Strachan got the subs right?? Anya was a good move, but not taking Phillips off was staggering.

If we had converted every chance we had last night and won 6-0, would folk still be talking about the performance?
