One of them will get replaced by Lallana
To be fair we have lallana who would perfectly fit the cm role to in that system you propose, it's just he's is injured at the moment.
Does Lallana really have that nous for scoring goals though? Gets the odd few a season, but not really much there. More of a worker and creator than a goal scorer.
England just don't have the striking quality of Lampard/Gerrard from anybody in midfield. Players too scared to take shots on from distance. All too tentative trying to work the perfect chance.

Game needs a Wilshere tbh, there's just nothing from midfield
Close this thread now that Wilshere has been mentioned
Dier and the average Horrenderson.
I look back at how Scholes was played out of position and feel a little sad. Both of these players should b making an England bench at best, but are about the best we have at the moment.

Got 7 goals and 7 assists I think last season in about 30 games. Not prolific but he's the best we've got for that role.
If ox can get a start, then Wilshere should be fecking captain
It's not the point about letting the game finish though, the problems are still there even if England win. In fact its probably worse if England win because that means these issues will get ignored, or not focused on as much as they possibly should do!
This team has a lack of depth in midfield, but this team has no identity or strategy to compensate.
Agree with the post tbh. Lallana in for Dier for me
Said correctly there, England's midfield must be shallow if Oxlade-Chamberlin is starting and Wilshere is being mentioned as well.
That's what I mean about Lallana, its half decent but nothing special. England just lack that other player. Would do well for the role, but would it have enough?

Take Ox back please. Rather have Jordan Ibe back.
Nah, got sick of defending him, he's your problem now
Since England are without Alli and Lallana, probably the 2 best goal scoring midfielders they've got, they may have been better going 4-4-2 tonight. Kane partnered by one of Sturridge, Defoe or Rashford. Would say Vardy as he has the pace and effort to run in behind, but he's not in the squad. Rashford though would work well here tonight to drive at the defence and work off Kane.
Have two wingers that will work hard, like Ox and Welbeck potentially and then stretch the pitch, have the full backs on the overlap, double up out wide and let them bomb on. Then, Henderson and Dier can sit and pick passes, especially if we overload the wide areas. But the full backs haven't gambled either.
I'm at a loss as to why we signed AOC. He had so much promise when he first emerged but he's never really kicked on. Arsenal fans must be made up that they got such a huge fee for a very average player.
Little Britain? Little England!

So use terrible wide options to stretch?
England's intentions summed up with that sub tonight.
There are so many negatives from the last 12/24 months from England that I could put in this article, I just wouldn't want anybody reading more than they already had to! This is poor. England need an identity, Southgate has given them one, a negative one.
Ox and Welbeck are much more hard working in that role than a lazy @rse like Sterling though. The full backs will overlap, provide the extra width and the crosses largely rather than these 2 players. They will just have the work rate to track runners which would stop counter attacks and stop England being exploited in the wide areas on the break. That's the thinking.

They have hardly set the world alight until the last kick. More Kane than the FB
The one time Walker had space to deliver a cross and its resulted in a goal though, that's the theory behind the 4-4-2 formation and that goal there has just proven that it works.
However England have won, just. I suppose just enough but this win is nothing more than paper over the cracks, again.

No, a terrible GK mistake created the opening.
Which gave Walker the space to get the assist. So yes, the goal came from a full back in space in a wide area, regardless how it came about.
