----------------------------------------------------------------------
I don't disagree. But... always a but😂
What do you think Putin means when he says denazification?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think it’s an excuse to remove the government, which he’ll argue hasn’t addressed the (non-)issue.
He isn’t talking about ‘de-nazifying’ the military, by the way. He’s talking about de-nazifying and demilitarising the *country*. How would one go about doing that? He’s making tacit references to the Ukrainian govt.
Analysts seem pretty certain at this point that he’s after regime change. Ideally, he’d like a Lukaschenko-type autocrat in charge going forwards, of course. But I don’t see how he might have any chance of getting that to stick given the Ukrainians’ experience of free democratic governance now.
I don’t know if that’s necessarily a *huge* problem for him immediately if his plan *isn’t* to annex Ukraine in wholesale fashion: he can remove the govt, trash the country’s defences, fortify Donbas and any other regions he wants to and thinks he can hold in Russia’s name/those of ‘separatists’, and return home to tell the public that the Ukrainian military threat is pacified, the neo-nazi sympathetic govt has been removed, Ukraine has had fair warning about its future conduct, and Russia has defended separatists against ‘Ukrainian genocide’.
By the way, if Russia was actually concerned about Ukrainian ‘genocide’ in Donbas this last eight years, it would have let independent (third country or UN) observers into Luhansk and/or Donetsk.
Ukraine has not blocked human rights observers from entering the region since the 2014 conflict. Russia has, and the separatists have.
Why, if your own people are being subject to an active campaign ‘genocide’, would *you* block NGOs or the UN from entering the region to observe?

Another interesting parallel to the north of Ireland where there appears to be opposition to the use of the Irish language in similar settings.
It is spelled Kiev not Kyiv. We are American and that is how we spell it.

A Republican senator insisting on spelling it the Russian way becuase she's an American patriot 🤔
I do find it concerning how certain posters have swallowed the “far right nahtzi Ukrainian” line spouted by Putin. Suggests that either there’s a certain gullibility from listening directly to Putin (which seems downright bizarre and not that likely IMO) or they are picking up on it from certain other media channels (far more likely IMO) but unable to discern the biases of said media channels.
