Open question

If you had a client that was let’s say similar to abramovic along those lines, would you cease to do business with them going forward?

It’s a quandary I face currently. Obviously I wasn’t unaware of the likely origin of their wealth etc and so nothing has really changed in that regard but the invasion has obviously made it require deeper consideration.

Would it achieve anything my not doing business for them? Is that just a cowardly immoral rationalisation to justify my selfish drives?

Truth is the decision might very well be made for me, I’m probably just being a pssy waiting for that to happen but if it doesn’t….
----------------------------------------------------------------------
So for me the judgement on whether you should do business has been made by the government with the sanctions list. Obv if they’re on that list (also potentially even if on US or EU list) then it’s a no-no.

Presumably also your company has an AML policy and training on the processes that you go through when you have concerns as it appears you have? Given my nature I’d be inclined to be cautious about doing business because it’s not just about being fair and responsible, it is about being seen to be as such.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes the sanctions list make it clear for now but I don’t expect these sanctions on these people to be permanent by any means. So the question is what to do after?

Yes I’m actually pretty good with my KYC/CDD/AML so that’s not really a concern (although something could change that but I don’t foresee that happening in London).

At the point of my involvement everything is completely above board but it’s just that one can assume that the truth and what is demonstrated/provable aren’t always the same.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
If I was to turn the question round. What are the downsides of pausing the relationship with this client?

It’s on pause already tbh but that’s not been a decision I have made it’s just how it is currently. The downside of me insisting backing off say, even if understandable due to caution, is losing the future business (if/when things return to ‘normal’ ). You might say that if someone were to not appreciate our position and decide to sever the relationship, then they are not someone to do business with anyway but I cannot afford to apply such standards to all clients; too many people are ‘zero fks given’ or just plain khnts.

Ultimately this is a client that (to use football transfers as an analogy) is currently seasoned league one players or potential top youth products from the big clubs, but at some point in the next two years (before Putin’s actions) it would be the Neymar transfer to PSG. As in, a separate huge transfer later, not the same player growing in value. So from a mostly (as it would benefit others too) selfish perspective, it’s a huge thing to walk away from. Even if it’s not guaranteed but very, very likely. Like Ronaldo leaving United to Madrid, not guaranteed but was always going to happen.

NATOs bombing of Belgrade

A clear war crime, our chancellor that time Gerhard Schröder called it a violation of international law a few years ago.

Right wing German intellectual Götz Kubitschek that was a Officer in the German Army that time and was shocked that he had to take part in organizing that war and it motivated him to leave the Army and reject the west and the current Germany as a whole.

Again, NATO caused the most violations of international law, neo colonialism, imperialism and war crimes post 1949.

Serbia ethnically cleansed Bosnian Muslims but you be you Peks.
Nobody has an issue with Russia or Russian speakers, the issue is with their dictator as the issue was with the Serbian leadership not the Serbian people.

You're an apologist for a warmongering weirdo, a weirdo that brought nuclear poison to London and a nerve agent that shut down Salisbury. F**k off!

Peks is just a caaaant who is either very bored and wants to troll or even worse, actually believes that Putin isn’t that bad and just needs a cuddle.

Suspending Montenego's memembership of NATO and rejecting their efforts to join the EU would either isolate them or change their Pro Russian stance.

TBAB, I have a question for you my bizarre friend. On Twitter there seems to be some kind of KGB news civil war brewing between the really mental and the somewhat mental over Tom Harwood. The really mental think he’s controlled opposition and is trying to bring down the channel from the inside. The somewhat mental like him.

TBAB, what is going on?

John Pilger on Twitter

‘Jingoism and hypocrisy engulf the UK/US as they pour arms into Ukraine to prevent peace with Russia. Meanwhile, Boris Johnson begs for oil from Saudi Arabia, a medieval regime armed by "us" in its criminal war against stricken Yemen. Put out more flags!’

Being reading through a thread on a forum i post on
it's from 2019, and is about Russia/Belarus/Ukraine..

Most of the people commenting are Eastern Euros like Poles, etc

They knew the score back then

I'll post some of the comments. Remember this from 3 years ago:

"Russia and Byelorussia might cut a deal and unite, at some point in the future, but I don't see it happening. The Ukraine is shaken by civil strife, and we might see it ripped apart. If the Ukraine irreversibly fragments, then we might see the Crimea and Eastern Regions become permanently absorbed into Russia."

This is from a Polish bloke:

"Why not? All we have to do is to separate Galicia and give it to Poland. You want your old lands back, aren't you? Then the troublesome part will be your problem

The rest of Ukraine will be peacefully absorbed by Russia."
