Why does a GE have to be 2 years away, can't we have it tomorrow instead

Might be part of the plan to keep him in post, do the leadership contest now while he will still likely win

Then they can't do another for a year
----------------------------------------------------------------------
If there is a contest, and he wins, I think he’ll still be in power leading up to the next GE.

A second contest within spitting distance of a GE wouldn’t look at all good for the Tories, whether Boris were to win or lose.

They’ll have one really safe chance to shift him. If they decide to back him, they’re going to be stuck with him, and that in itself is a massive gamble.

I guess for the moderates, the risk with shifting him is that they end up replacing him with a right wing ideologue even more ardent Brexiteer who manages to get nowhere with and pesses off the EU, and further alienates both the US administration and the general (non-extreme loyalist) public in NI.

NEW: Gazprom has stopped supplying gas to the Netherlands. The suspension comes in response to Pres Putin’s insistence that foreign companies pay for their Russian energy supplies in roubles. Dutch government has says supplies to consumers would not be directly affected.

I didn’t want to actually say the word

Who else might run? Tugendhat for sure. Jeremy C again? Truss, Javid, Zahawi, Mordaunt, Wallace, Rishi and McVey would all be interested I’d guess?

The nightmare run off would be Priti vs Truss. I think I’d have to burn my passport and become officially stateless

Owen Jones is the type of person who'd rather Labour lose but win the argument than win but only enact 25% of change.

Ex-wife of Qatari prince found dead in Marbella amid custody battle after accusing royal
Kasia Gallanio (left) was the former wife of billionaire Abdelaziz bin Khalifa Al Thani (inset), the uncle of the current Emir of Qatar. She claimed the former Qatari oil and finance minister sexually abused one of their three daughters, although he has denied the allegations. Gallanio, who led a lavish lifestyle and was regularly partying with celebrities (right, pictured with Channing Tatum and Antonio Banderas), was found on Sunday morning in Spain after a suspected drug overdose. The former couple share two 17-year-old twins who initially lived with Al Thani before they decided to move in with their mother in Marbella. They have another daughter, who is aged 15 and still lives with the Qatari royal

Boris Johnson's standards adviser says there is a "legitimate question" over whether the PM broke the ministerial code after getting fined for Partygate.

Lord Geidt said he repeatedly told the PM's team to be ready to explain if his actions stuck within the rules - even if he thought there was no breach.

But he said the advice had not been "heeded", calling on Mr Johnson to set out his case to the public.

Bristol travel agent Miles Morgan said the industry was one of the worst affected by the Covid-19 pandemic and is struggling under the pressure of renewed demand.

"It's difficult for every industry at the moment and what we're seeing with airlines is that in focus. If you don't have enough crew it has a catastrophic effect on people's flights and holidays," he said.

"Airports are trying to ramp up recruitment but everyone is struggling to recruit so the situation is worse than we would see in a normal year.

"It's the whole machine struggling and under pressure as we build out of the pandemic," he added.

Why is this shiiit always happening to us I wonder..

I’ve just had a haircut end abruptly, leaving me with an uneven hairline after I said I worked for @GBNEWS

I won’t name the salon as that’s not fair to other professionals who work there but blimey, to take your politics out on someone’s hair! https://t.co/qkgyledJGc

To be fair to the hairdresser, they were probably laughing so hard that they couldn’t hold the clippers any more.
