All very well condeming the Rwanda scheme but has anyone come up with a solution to resolve the entry of thousands of people trying to access the UK, we don't have the housing or other infrastructure to cope with the demand, the health and social services are already at full stretch, so who has a plan, open door is not an acceptable solution.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah, there are many, many different proposals, which you can find freely if you perform a cursory Google search.
Two prominent reasons why health and care services are at full stretch are:
1. Chronic underinvestment year after year by the Tories.
2. Chronic staff shortages, particularly in nursing and care staff.
Where do you propose the UK finds the 350,000 nurses, AHPs, other healthcare workers, and care workers it is short? Magic them out of thin air?

The Rwandan scheme (so we're told) is to dissuade people trying to get to the UK to claim asylum. However there's no evidence it will. As other similar schemes found once asylum seekers arrived at the third country, they fell into the hands of traffickers who further exploited them.
https://deeply.thenewhumanitarian.org/refugees/community/2018/05/03/how-israels-secret-refugee-deals-collapsed-in-the-light-of-day
https://www.law.ox.ac.uk/research-subject-groups/centre-criminology/centreborder-criminologies/blog/2018/10/moving-under
People displacement happens. For countless reasons. And the UK has a legal obligation to process those claiming asylum fairly. When the judicial review is completed in July most legal commentators believe it will be deemed unlawful.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-61122241
I also understand the scheme is ridiculously priced.
https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/sending-migrants-to-rwanda-will-cost-same-as-housing-them-in-uk-v7qpl6bxm
Offshoring asylum seekers is a tried and failed model, as I believe not a single one has been successful.
So offshoring is not going to work, so what's your way of dealing with illegal entry into the UK,would love to hear your views?
This can't be the first time you've been told but whatever... Claiming asylum isn't illegal
Entering the country undocumented is illegal, you try it.
https://righttoremain.org.uk/toolkit/claimasylum/
You're being deliberately obtuse. Our govt either through malice or incompetence, possibly both, have made it virtually impossible to claim asylum in the UK without doing the dangerous boat crossing
The Rwanda scheme won't stop the crossings, won't act as a deterrent and most importantly won't help the vulnerable people trying to get here. It's also likely to just increase the trade in human trafficking

Claiming asylum is not unlawful
https://www.refugeecouncil.org.uk/information/refugee-asylum-facts/the-truth-about-asylum/
https://freemovement.org.uk/asylum-seeking-isnt-illegal-yet-criminal-courts-confirm-quashing-small-boat-convictions/
Providing safe routes for asylum seekers would be a start. So those seeking refugee status can have their application considered. The UK government has blocked all other safe routes (channel tunnel for example) resulting in asylum seekers being forced into crossing the channel in inflatables. They are fundamentally assisting people traffickers.
Typically those fleeing war, persecution etc etc will not always have travel documents to hand.
https://www.unhcr.org/uk/frequently-asked-questions-for-asylum-seekers-and-refugees-in-the-uk.html
I'm not sure why you have to have an immediate alternative solution if something isn't viable, to say its not viable anyway. It's a stupid mindset to carry on with something non-viable, just because an easy answer isn't in front of you.

If you’re talking about asylum seeking, maybe the first thing that’s required is a change in mindset?
The UK receives far fewer asylum applications than Greece, Spain, France and Germany, for example, and per capita population it’s way down the European list.
In 2020, there were around 6 asylum applications for every 10,000 people living in the UK. Across the EU27 there were 11 asylum applications for every 10,000 people.
And when compared with EU countries, the UK ranked 14th out of the individual countries in terms of the number of asylum applications per capita.
The number of people arriving in itself IS NOT A CRISIS. It is not out of control, and it is not unsustainable by any measure.
The problems are:
- the fact that there are so many desperate people having to travel across the globe, in fear of their lives, to escape war, persecution and poverty.
- how they are arriving and what happens to them when they do arrive.
One wholesale change might be engaging seriously with the EU, other developed nations and countries neighbouring conflict zones to help support those fleeing at source, including funding support and resettlement programmes in neighbouring countries and setting up asylum centres there to help assess applications and determine appropriate resettlement arrangements for successful applications, sharing the obligation fairly across the developed (and other parts of where appropriate) world.
Not obtuse just trying to get someone to come up with a solution to uncontrolled entry into the UK, we cannot absorb the numbers arriving, we don't have housing for those already here what's your answer?
For starters you've been clearly shown that this Rwanda scheme isn't a solution and won't work, all it will do is placate the sort of people who want to those making the crossings "punished"
There is no solution to asylum seekers while we live on a planet with wars and famine but there are many cheaper, more effective and infinitely more humane ways of helping these people while "protecting our borders"

Patel was asked what modelling had been done beforehand (Rwanda) given the abject failure of other offshoring schemes, and conceded none. Which is why the agreement was a MOU rather than a treaty so there'd be no committee or parliamentary scrutiny.

Providing safe routes for asylum seekers would be a start. So those seeking refugee status can have their application considered. The UK government has blocked all other safe routes (channel tunnel for example) resulting in asylum seekers being forced into crossing the channel in inflatables. They are fundamentally assisting people traffickers.
Typically those fleeing war, persecution etc etc will not always have travel documents to hand.

I'm not sure why you have to have an immediate alternative solution if something isn't viable, to say its not viable anyway. It's a stupid mindset to carry on with something non-viable, just because an easy answer isn't in front of you.

Find 350,00. Nurses, rob the struggling countries of their nurses, that's what we have been doing since the innovation of the Nhs.

Fair point, well made.
Our youff don't wanna wipe ass and clean puke, for low wages.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Our youff are nearly all employed, tbab.
As of April, the UK unemployment rate was 3.8% (ONS). 3% is commonly considered full employment.
There’s a shortage of workers, mainly unskilled, and it is worsening.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
what's the point working for v low wages ?
i'd rather hunt n gather , like our Palaeolithic ancestors did
make shelters from mammoth bone n stuff
they should de-extinct ice age fauna, re-create the mammoth steppe, and let the low skilled go back to living the hunter n gatherer lifestyle
