Thanks, Rosso. I have this it/rational dislike for the Canadian know-it-all psychologist and it was the title of one of Jordi Pederson's YouTube gies.
It was even worse. He called Foucault a paedo then dropped the subject like the weasel he is. Just wondering why he'd call him "the hero of the woke".
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Jordan Peterson is philosophically illiterate. His dislike for postmodernism is probably down to how it questions some of the structuralist claims on knowledge. But also general ignorance as well.
Foucault is highly regarded in philosophy for a reason; it tells a very compelling story and is useful for understanding the power structures of today.
He is not without fault; his personal life and attitudes to topics are feckin weird batshlt crazy (the paedo thing is a tad justified). Just as with most philosophers he got a lot wrong - Kant was a racist, Heidigger a fascist and feckin Weitgenstein beat a kid!!

Yeah weirdly coincidence as I just logged on today!
I hope I cleared a bit up. There’s also a lot which can be added - like how postmodernism and Foucault are quite radically opposed to claims on identity in general. Something counterintuitive to the goal of identity politics and wokeness.
Yeah, BH. I just wondered who this "hero of the woke" was in the video title. Fvkin click bait
I'd imagine people in other professions throughout history had character flaws as bad or worse than those you mentioned.
And as for the Musk fellow. I've heard he's on the spectrum, but didn't realise he had such a bad case of ADD.

Exactly
He is a highly inflated figure on the right - he was contentious with the left in his day, just as he is right now. And theres so much more to left-wing philosophy than Foucault ffs!! It gives the guy way too much credit.
It's the exact kind of strategy Ayn Rand had with her commentary on philosophy - in her case she blamed Immanuel Kant for progessivism, and coined her ownilliterate 'objectivism'.

Young Tories annoy me even more than old Tories. With the older ones you can kind of overlook some of their stupidity because perhaps they’re of a bygone era when their views were more acceptable plus they’re closer to death so what do they care about the planet they’ll leave behind.
Young Tories however … they are some weird caaants. Imagine being in 2022 and thinking you wanna be a young conservative 🙄

Eloquent and insightful intro on Foucault above too.
Funnily enough, I was reading a bit of Emil Cioran today, and found myself thinking that I enjoy him for the very same reason that I often enjoy Foucault: they’re both analytical terrorists unapologetic about their respective failures to even attempt to deliver solutions

----------------------------------------------------------------------
I haven't gone that far into Cioran, but the parts I do hear I often find myself agreeing with.
Analytical is a good decription - some other thinkers like Sartre are very circular with their logic and reasoning, making them very difficult and frustrating to read. Whereas I found Foucault to be a lot easier and more rewarding.
I’m leaving Sartre for my retirement (if I’m still capable of any clarity of thought by then!). He’s too much of a headache for me. I feel like I’d need a couple of months fully immersed to get anywhere near a decent understanding.
Cioran I’m really enjoying, but struggling take too seriously, because he’s so inconsistent. His writing style and general attitude is fun though. He’s kind of like discovering that the very smartest kid in your student union is Jarvis Cocker: all of unapologetic, cheeky, brash, distracted, eloquent, equal parts macabre and joie de vivre.
His stuff on failure is absolutely amazing (even if I’m not buying it fully).
Will have to read them too
After all that, it turns out hedge funder Crispin Odey - who employed Kwarteng - was long sterling and gilts at end of last week, so made a packet out of sterling and gilt recovery. I asked him why and he said “patriotic!”. He tells me he reversed his short position…

I don't like how he's portrayed as some Machiavellian genius, he's just a corrupt oaf with the inside track, his gains recently and in 2016 barely offset the losses in-between

Corrupt oaf with an inside track is an excellent description of that person.
'Claims by new Home Secretary Suella Braverman that she “contributed” to a legal textbook have been rubbished by the book’s author – who says she merely did some photocopying for him.
Braverman’s profile on the website of No5, a leading barristers’ chambers where she worked before becoming an MP, claims she was “a contributor” to the 2007 textbook Gambling for Local Authorities, Licensing, Planning and Regeneration.
But the book’s author, Philip Kolvin KC, told the Big Issue Braverman “did not make a written or editorial contribution to the book”.
Kolvin added: “However on one occasion I asked her to do some photocopying for the book, which she did.”'
