The honours system is a pile of 💩

Rewarding limited sporting success and yet across the UK every day there are plenty of average folk who go above and beyond to help others and improve others lives

They should be the ones honoured/rewarded IMO

Knighthood for Gareth Southgate

Fek all for Kevin Sinfield

Just about sums this country’s priorities up.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
This article about Kevin Sinfield from 2021 might lead one to conclude that he doesn’t want one, for whatever reason.

https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/kevin-sinfield-rob-burrow-england-leicester-tigers-headingley-b1963389.html

----------------------------------------------------------------------
He doesn’t really comment on the subject
----------------------------------------------------------------------
His reference to it being “more of a team effort” can be read as a polite way of saying no thank you, without looking to offend those who would be unhappy at him declining such an award.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Boris Johnson was suggesting a knighthood, Sinfield was probably thinking ‘…..and we’re not even related’

Good to see we agree on something

Another Jealous fecker who’s failed in life and wants to punish others for prioritising their child’s education over luxuries. If we had remained in your beloved EU Labour wouldn’t have been able to tax private schools.

If we’re going to tax private schools shouldn’t we go after universities?

If you can point to some of the benefits from an R&D perspective or advancement in various fields that comes directly from private primary and secondary education, versus universities, then we could have that discussion. I’d also point to the current funding structures through the excessive interest rates on student loans that the majority of university students are subject to a form of taxation for attending uni.

I would have thought that was obvious. If you went to a state school and studied science you'll know it's a risky career move for people with lower income backgrounds. Most of us went into higher paying but less impactful careers. A disproportionate number of the uk's leading scientists (c40%) come from private schools. 44% Nobel prize winners. That's not surprising to me.

Student loans are deducted from pre tax income.
